A Jewish kid was beaten up at school in Fredricton. No one stopped it.
A kid in Toronto who has been bullied for being Jewish was walked to school by his community to keep him safe. Not a word.
Vancouver artists are being kicked out of exhibits for being Jewish. No one said anything.
The mayor of our largest city thinks it’s “divisive” to celebrate the independence of a 76 year democratic ally. No one seemed fussed.
McGill University failed to get an injunction to remove an anti-Israel, pro-Hamas encampment on its property.
Not a single MP from the government shows up at a yearly Yom Hazikaron ceremony to pay tribute to the fallen.
Another synagogue in Toronto was vandalized… for the second time.
The Prime Minister says nothing about any of it.
Condemn the rising antisemitism, the outright violence and condemn those who justify it. It’s the very least a virtue signalling government should do.
There is more. It’s in here @kinsellawarren lays it out. 👇https://t.co/mhu1DOGFzS

@diego_gt1
I’ve heard from so many Jews here at home that, post October 7, one of the most stark realities is having people you know, respect or maybe even love, out themselves as antisemites. Colleagues, classmates, friends, even family members, the list is long. Whether motivated by malice or ignorance, the veiled antisemitism of the past is veiled no more, it’s out for all the world to see. The decision to confront these people (or not) is personal and complicated but know you’re not alone, and let your Jewish pride be a guiding light.
Should you get the updated Covid shot this fall?
As told to @ctvnews today,
Yes! and for a few reasons:
1) If you're older than 60, it should be a no-brainer. You still have a higher risk of complications with every infection. It's definitely not like it was 2-3 years ago, and we're not filling ICUs, but it's still a nasty disease that can take you out of action for weeks or longer, and exacerbate your existing medical issues.
2) If you're younger, and you've already had your shots and some minor barely noticeable infections since, I would still consider getting it. New data from the US Census Bureau shows an increasing number of people in the younger, prime working age cohort are showing signs of long term disability, with cognitive symptoms, likely as a consequence of infection. This trend does not show any signs of slowing, and seems to be increasing with time.
3) This bug is stubborn. In data taken from PCR swabs in Ontario (which are often taken as screening measures in hospitals), nearly 1/5 of all samples are Covid, with Flu being 1%, RSV fluctuating between 2-5%, and other viruses making up the rest. Despite multiple rounds of vaccination, and infection in the population, this bug is not fading into the background, and settling down like the other seasonal coronaviruses (which are 1% or less).
4) You can get some immunity from infection for a few months, perhaps a few months after your booster. Considering we're going into prime respiratory virus season, a shot now can save you a lot of grief, time-off work, and worrying about sick, vulnerable family members during the holidays.
5) I shared an anecdote of narrowly dodging an infection at work. A coworker I was sitting next to, later developed symptoms that evening and tested positive the next day. I was in a well ventilated setting, was wearing a mask (which I do in high risk places like a health care centre filled with sick patients). I've also been boosted for a month now. I dodged it, did not infect my elderly parents, kids, colleagues and my patients.
Covid is difficult to avoid all the time, given how ubiquitous it is, but you can score easy wins by spending more of your time in well ventilated indoor spaces, keeping up to date on your shots, and strategic masking in high risk areas, and having a workplace culture where ill workers stay home and test themselves when sick.
@deonandan At his age they are amazingly intelligent. I think that we, adults, and our cultural organizations sometimes disrupt the trajectory that many geniuses could reach.
Looking for a letter signed by 33 MPs denouncing openly flying the flag of a banned terrorist organization in the streets of Toronto.
It can even be a tweet saying how disgusting and vile this is. It can offer support to a community frightened by this. It can alert @TPSOperations because this is actually illegal. It can do any of these things. I’ll wait. #cdnpoli
To the sane and decent people out there - look around.
Jewish university students are hiding from violent mobs. A pogrom is underway in Russia. Huge crowds are marching through capital cities shouting genocidal chants.
Never Again is NOW. Now is the time for the sane and decent to rise up and say ENOUGH.
Horrible horrible behaviour. You can be opposed to the ongoing suffering of Palestinians (I am) but at the same time recognize that Jewish Canadians are not responsible. FWIW, I love Cafe Landwer. Best vegan shakshuka I've ever had.
