@ErinSandersNP Ask your pediatrician’s office. Ours does the PCR in the building and we’ve sometimes gotten results in a couple of hours. No waiting, beyond getting a sick-kid appointment, and immediate notification.
@michelebusby I like the Berkshires. Lots of kid-friendly stuff (swimming, hiking, amusement parks) plus world-class music, theater, dance. Big name places may book early but you can usually find decent last-minute rooms online or via visitor centers.
Definitely not missing the irony of listening to an NPR piece on how vaccine access is still inequitable while multiple people on multiple devices attempt to schedule one household member for vaccination.
Big accomplishment today: after 2 hours, 2 people, and 5 devices, my husband finally succeeded in booking an appointment for the vaccine. Let's throw a big party to celebrate! Oh, wait...
@statesdj Many colleges are finishing their semesters about now. I've no data to back this up, but I'd bet a lot of that travel is students heading home until February. No good options when dorms close, so it's a tough call either way.
@statesdj I'm cracking up but it's not really funny. I guess in these days we have to look at the light side. Maybe we could put one of those $150 UV "air purifiers" in the middle to complete the picture?
Sad, but not surprising. Another example of bad data science driven by using the wrong tool for the job. If your software is limiting your analysis in any way, it's time to use something else.
In the UK the number of cases rose rapidly.
But the public – and authorities – are only learning this now because these cases were only published now as a backlog.
The reason was apparently that the database is managed in Excel and the number of columns had reached the maximum.
Hannah Arendt (1906-1975): The ideal subject for totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or dedicated communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction, true and false, no longer exists.
Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg fought to the end, through her cancer, with unwavering faith in our democracy and its ideals. That’s how we remember her. But she also left instructions for how she wanted her legacy to be honored. My statement: https://t.co/Wa6YcT5gDi
Brilliant, esp since my go-to teaching example on multiple testing adjustment and the family-wise error rate is conducting multiple clinical trials asking whether chocolate chip cookies cure the common cold. (My mom always said they did...)
Therapies: not much enthusiasm for convalescent plasma. Much excitement about monoclonal antibodies.
Steroid treatment (Dexa) > Remdesivir

@zakkohane@Tesla Then how will they get people to use autopilot, which in a recent model 3 upgrade would recognize and stop at many (but not all) stop signs? The need for data to improve the cars' software may be at odds with insurance incentives...
@drgitlin You have a point, but given that I've had to have a few zoom meetings from my parked car, I could see a use for this. It's ok if it doesn't work while the car is moving. We can't just bop into a coffee shop for an hour to connect anymore.
