Rath Yatra is a Nagar-vihaar of the Bhagwaan to take a view of how every one is doing in the kingdom.

It is Bharat's duty to protect and offer refuge to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains and Buddhists persecuted in Bangladesh and Pakistan. What can India do as we navigate this uncertain world order?

1. First things first, food security. Thankfully India is self-sufficient in food and we must safeguard our food security. As poorer nations face stress, India also must grow more food so we can aid other nations facing food crises. That is our dharma as Bharat.

This is what we did during Covid, with vaccine diplomacy.

2. Closely tied to food security is energy security. Today's agriculture converts fossil fuel to food, through dependence on fossil-fuel derived fertilizers and through tractors, harvesters and the like. Energy is food. Fortunately we have a good relationship with petroleum exporting nations.

Longer term, we need to foster R&D on more sustainable agriculture, from water management to holistic management of livestock and plants and electric powered farm machines. We also need a lot of model private farms and training centres.

3. We will face an onslaught of Chinese goods, from steel to toys to EVs and everything in between. What we think of as commercial aggression is really desperation in the face of massive overcapacity the Chinese have unwisely built. Navigating this will be a huge challenge.

Negotiating to pay for Chinese imports in rupees may be a good starting point. That may also push their companies to buy from us.

More generally, renegotiating to repay our external debts in rupees is a good idea and may boost our exports too. The world will likely be more receptive now.

4. Time to build factories. We need a 3-5 year sprint to build factories everywhere. We must push importers and distributors of imported goods to set up manufacturing units. The government can incentivise these - as an example, factories in backward districts can get 100% write off in one year and other areas can get 50% write off, to accelerate investment.

5. Related to the above, we must prioritize importing capital goods for production as opposed to consumer goods that we must aim to produce. And negotiate to pay for those capital goods in rupees as in 3.

6. We must aim to raise our R&D to GDP ratio to 3% over 5-10 years and this must happen mostly in the private sector. We need to push our private sector to set up R&D labs. Perhaps a CSR like obligation for R&D may work and we can also allow R&D related capital spending to be written off quickly.

7. India must liberally share the light of knowledge - gained from our R&D investment - with poorer nations. They do not have the vast human resources to invent that we do and when we start inventing, we must share rather than hoard. That is the only way to a more just and more stable global order. That is our dharma as Bharat 🙏

Thankfully we have a strong and resolute government and our Prime Minister Modi-ji is globally respected and those are huge assets as we chart a course through turbulent times.
