#BreakingNews: New Westminster Ethics Commissioner Lisa Southern has found that Mayor Patrick Johnstone breached the City's Council Code of Conduct by posting to social media that City Councillor Daniel Fontaine was telling "bald-faced lies."

Southern's 7 page decision will be discussed at a June 30 Special Meeting of @New_Westminster Council.

Southern found Johnstone's post breached section (19)(b) of the Code prohibiting disparaging public comments about other Councillors.

A resident filed the complaint after Johnstone took to social media on Dec 8, 2025 to denounce @NWProgressives City Councillor & mayoral hopeful Fontaine for comments Fontaine made in a Council meeting decrying tax increases totalling 30% over Johnstone's term as mayor. Southern found the 30% figure to be accurate.

Johnstone also accused Fontaine of lying during the relevant council meeting (see video).

Johnstone has submitted a memo to Council admitting fault & apologizing for his "tone."

Johnstone's NDP/Labour endorsed Community First Party, & prior labour slates, have controlled New Westminster City Hall since 2014.

@Community1stNW is facing strong resident backlash over tax-hikes, bike-lanes, scrubbing the "Royal City" moniker, crime & disorder, & a controversial "Tiny Home Village."

Fontaine's centre-right "Progressives" currently have 2 of 7 votes on Council, but many expect the balance of power could flip in upcoming civic elections this fall.

Douglas Murray just dismantled a BBC Newsnight presenter on live television — and the man didn’t even raise his voice.

Nick Watt tried the usual trap. He quoted Murray’s own words — “𝘸𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺” — and then immediately tried to redefine them: “𝘚𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘮 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘪𝘮 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩. 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘚𝘢𝘫𝘪𝘥 𝘑𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘥. 𝘓𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘚𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘲 𝘒𝘩𝘢𝘯.”

Murray didn’t take the bait. “𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘣𝘦𝘥𝘪 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺, 𝘸𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘪𝘵?” Then he laid it out. The Abedi family were jihadists who’d fallen out with Colonel Gaddafi over rival jihadist factions. Britain took them in. They settled in Manchester. And 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐛𝐞𝐝𝐢, one of the sons this country gave shelter to, walked into the Manchester Arena at 𝟐𝟐 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐥𝐝 and k!lled 𝟐𝟐 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐬 with a suicide bomb. “𝘖𝘯𝘦, 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘮.”

Then Murray went to the math that nobody in media wants to engage with. “𝘑𝘪𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘮, 𝘫𝘪𝘩𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘮 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘮. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦, 𝘪𝘧 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 1%, 5%, 15% 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘪𝘮 𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘪𝘵, 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘷𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘮.” The larger the population, the larger the number of extremists. “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘩 𝘪𝘯 2024. Watt tried one more time to steer it back to stereotyping. That’s not a rhetorical flourish. It’s a direct challenge to every journalist and politician in Britain who would rather arrest citizens for social media posts than confront what’s marching through their streets every weekend. Murray gave the BBC a chance to grapple with it. They changed the subject.

This Passover, as we celebrate the festival of our freedom, the very idea of freedom is under assault. Here in Canada, our own children are growing up in a country that is being torn apart by those who would shoot synagogues, glorify terrorism, and harass Jews.

He condemns Israel for an "illegal invasion,” condemning the Jewish State for defending itself from Hezbollah - a Canadian-listed terror entity raining rockets on Israeli civilians.

Yesterday, four Israeli soldiers were killed in Lebanon by that same terror group. Not a single word of recognition for the soldiers killed by terrorists. Not a single word for the families still living under cluster bombs and ballistic missiles. Not a word for a people and their state living under hellfire and hate.

It is a reoccurring pattern with this Liberal government.

The Prime Minister gets it exactly wrong: Extending one hand of friendship to our enemies, while slapping our friends in the face with the other one.
