There was the machinery, the intimidation, the arrests, the “kill them” rhetoric, the EFCC drama, and apparently even the two-hour suspense episode before results emerged. Still, Adeleke won.

The lesson? You can deploy the machinery to the polling unit, but you cannot legally deploy voters to vote the way you want. If you want to win, whether you are the ruling party or the opposition, deepen your grassroots connection.

But nobody should get comfortable. Osun is not the end of the story. It is the warning trailer.

So, watch and protect your vote. And don't leave democracy unattended. Because the people may have won this round, but the machinery has surely gone back to school.
