please forgive my random rambling, i just want to share, haha.

what did it for me when i was non-denominational was a frustration of some sort.

i wanted to get closer to Christ, but i found no grace to struggle against my persistent sicknesses.

for some of them, like unbelief, unforgiveness and condemnation, it was easier to logically work through, but hard to actually work on.

for others, the more bodily passions, there was seemingly nothing that could help, for me at least.

i became disillusioned and despaired often, not knowing if i would ever be able to really lay down my life and hear on that Day,"Well done, thou good and faithful servant."

so as i was very saddened, i told my friends about it. one of them told me to look into Orthodoxy, thank God!!

then i read the life of St Mary of Egypt and of St Moses the Ethiopian, and i was in awe of the grace of God.

i knew then that the Lord has never abandoned us, that His Body has been preserved by His own love for us.

then i began to reach out to different Priests in my area, and learned of the Faith which Christ gives to us, unshakable by men and all-healing.

Glory to God in the highest! and on earth, peace! goodwill toward mankind!

this is such a helpful word.

one way that has helped me is remembering that all things shall be revealed in the Day.

if, by grace and effort making it a habit, we can remember that all things we do in secret shall be made manifest,

then we will worship, pray, act, and think in a way that is loving, humble, compassionate, and obedient to Christ God.

we will fail often, yes. but with God's help, of His grace in the Saints who pray for us, and of those yet on the earth who do too,

we will arise and go to our Father again, and He will show us that we are a member of His house, embracing us and rejoicing greatly over us.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

both now and forever and to the endless ages of eternity, Amen.

the music and editing of these videos that i have seen is a little distracting.

i do love that it makes the words more accessible for many.

im going to give my thoughts too but im not an authority. please take what im saying with salt.

while our love is a faint shadow in comparison, this is likely, a good teaching method that He allows to happen. not Blesses, per se, but allows by our free will, not interrupting or coercing us.

our love, though mixed with selfishness and selflessness, possessiveness and advocating for the other's freedom, greed and charity;

when we see it unrequited and bewail it in self-pity as well as longing for the good of the other, we may come to our senses and see Him Who patiently knocks at the door of our hearts.

His Love, fiery and infinite, non-possessive and truly freeing, jealous and yet pure;

He does not chide and hold us back when we tear at Him and demand to go our way, but He rather Blesses us, awaiting our return eagerly.

so when we reflect upon His love, Love Whom He Is, and see our own unrequited, we cannot but put up our hands and fall to our faces saying,"Glory to You, patient and longsuffering Lord! have compassion on us and Save us from ourselves!"

this reminds me of a quote from our beloved Saint Ambrose:

“If you find that you have no love but desire to have it, do the works of love and the Lord will see your desire and effort and put love in your heart.” ~ St. Ambrose of Optina

forgiveness is also easier when we see that it is a gift of God. when we are granted to see how much forgiveness in God there is for our own foolishness, then He can also give us forgiveness toward others if we ask Him.

He delights to answer such a prayer when it is sincere, and even when we are not fully sincere! if we have even a little desire to love and forgive, the Lord applies His remedies by grace and helps us to walk in that way little by little; slowly, slowly, gently, gently.

all of this of course is to be done with the guidance of the spiritual father, not just people saying what we have learned from our own on the internet, haha. i say that almost entirely to myself, but just wanted to say it out loud also.
