Christ is risen!

Let us pray with the Book of Psalms and read a kathisma (approximately 7–8 psalms) each day. If we are 20 people, together we can read the entire Book of Psalms daily.

If you would like to join, just DM me, and I will assign you a kathisma number to read and share with you the names of the other participants.

Let us fill our hearts with the grace of the Holy Spirit and pray for the peace of the world!

The Teachings of the Holy Venerable Elisabeta

In the spring of 2003, the Holy Venerable Elisabeta stayed for a month in our apartment in Cluj-Napoca, recovering after her surgery at Stanca Hospital. Nun Elisabeta did not sit idle; she arranged a prayer corner for us with icons, a cross, prayer ropes, a table on which she placed holy water, a vigil lamp, a candle holder, a censer, antidoron, incense, myrrh, and charcoal. The prayer rope on the right is the one she used while she stayed with us and left for us. She organized a corner of Paradise where we could pray, and every evening we read the Akathist and the Paraklesis of the Mother of God.

What teachings do you think the Holy Venerable Elisabeta left us?
First of all, that Paradise begins in a corner of the house. The Mother did not bring us high theology; she brought us order. Before speaking to us about God, she taught us to make room for Him. A small table, a vigil lamp that does not go out, an icon carefully wiped. She showed us that a person does not pray only in church, but makes a church in the home. Our apartment block apartment, with the noise of cars and the smell of food from the neighbors, became a cell. And then we understood the word of the Fathers: “Give God a corner of your house, and He will give you the whole heaven.”

Secondly, the teaching of prayer as breath. Sick, just out of surgery, with a weakened body, the Mother never complained once. From 5 in the morning we heard her whispering: “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me…” Her prayer rope, the one on the right, which she left us, was worn at the knots. Not from age, but from tears and fingers. She told us: “Brothers, do not pray much, pray often. Better 10 prostrations with the mind gathered than an Akathist read with the mind at the market.”

Every evening, when we read the Paraklesis of the Mother of God, she did not read loudly, but wept. And then we learned that prayer is not text, it is a state.

Thirdly, the teaching of patience in suffering. For a whole month she lived the pain with the dignity of a martyr. When it hurt, she put her hand on the place of the operation and said: “Thank You, Lord, that You visit me.” She never said “Why me?” or “How long will it last?” She taught us that illness is not punishment, but a blessing with a harsh mask. Stanca Hospital was not for her a dead end, but a small Golgotha, after which comes the Resurrection. From her we learned not to run away from the cross, but to kiss it.

Fourthly, the teaching of work done with love. The Mother could not sit idle. Although weak, she wiped the icons, arranged the antidoron in the little wooden box, put myrrh with a spoon in the censer, taught the wife how to light the charcoal correctly.

“Whatever you do, do it as for the Mother of God. If you clean, do it as if She were coming to visit.” Thus she sanctified the small things. We understood that there is no small work if you do it with prayer.

Fifthly, the teaching of leaving an invisible inheritance. When she left, she did not leave us money or expensive objects. She left us her prayer rope. A string of black wool, simple, made with her little hands. “Pray with it, and when you no longer pray, it will pray for you.” And so it was. The prayer corner remained. Her vigil lamp still burns today. The holy water is changed, the incense runs out and another is bought, but the order has remained. She taught us that the true inheritance is not put in a will, but in the souls of those who remain.

The Holy Venerable Elisabeta stayed with us only one month, but she has dwelt in us ever since. She did not come to recover bodily after the operation. She came, in fact, to restore us spiritually. And if someone enters our house today and sees that corner of Paradise, let him know: a saint passed through there. And she still passes, every evening, when the vigil lamp is lit.

Holy Venerable Elisabeta, pray to God for us, the sinners! Amen.

A person walks into a church for the first time.

He doesn’t know where to stand, when to make the sign of the cross, or how to approach the icons. Maybe he comes after years of being away; maybe some trouble weighs on him and he has only just found the courage to cross the threshold.

But right away someone is there to scold him: “Not there! Not like that! That’s not how it’s done!”

Are we the gatekeepers, or the brothers of the one seeking the way to God?
Church order should be respected, yet it can also be explained with gentleness. A person who doesn’t know should not be put to shame.

Let us remember that we ourselves were not born knowing all these things.
A kind word may help him return; a harsh rebuke may drive him away for a long time.

Let us not turn the Father’s house into a place where the son who has come home is afraid to enter.

@ant_bravington God is a merciful Father.

[Father Christopher @FChristopher77]

The devil does not rejoice when you fall.

He rejoices when you stay down.

We often believe that hell celebrates every sin of ours. It is not so.

For the demons, the fall is only a tool. They know very well that a fallen person can rise again, for they have seen it too many times. They saw David rising from adultery and the shedding of innocent blood, with “Have mercy on me, O God” on his lips. They saw Peter, after denying Him three times, going out and weeping bitterly. They saw the thief entering Paradise first, from a cross.

It is not your fall they want. They want what comes after it: the moment when you say to yourself, “There is no longer any escape for me.”

Peter and Judas fell on the same night. It was not the sin that separated the two, but what they did afterward. Peter wept and returned. Judas no longer believed he could be forgiven; he remained alone with his sin and perished.

The Holy Fathers, who knew the warfare of thoughts better than anyone, exposed this cunning.

Before the sin, the enemy whispers to you: “Go ahead, God is good, He will forgive you.”

After the sin, the same voice tells you: “God is just. For you it is too late.”

Beforehand, he shows you a God too mild to stop you. Afterward, he shows you a God too severe to receive you anymore. Neither of them is the true God. The liar is the same; only the mask has changed.

The Unseen Warfare, the book that St. Nicodemus the Hagiorite gave to the Church, teaches us something else that disarms us. The black turmoil after the fall is not humility, but wounded pride. It comes from a soul that is astonished that it could fall, because it believed itself stronger than it was. The humble person is not astonished when he falls. He weeps, rises, and runs to God.

St. John Climacus says that nothing is greater than the mercy of God, and that the one who despairs kills his own soul.

St. Isaac the Syrian says that all the sins of men, placed beside the mercy of God, are like a handful of sand thrown into the sea.

If you are down now - after an old sin, after a passion you can no longer escape, or after a shame you have told no one listen:

The thought that tells you “it is too late” is not the voice of conscience. It is the voice of the one who has never known repentance.

You do not have to be clean in order to return. You return in order to be cleansed.

You do not have to have strength in order to rise. Simply say, with whatever strength is left to you: “Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me.” The rest is His work.

Hell needs you to stay down. Heaven needs only that you lift your eyes.

Look at the icon of the Resurrection. Christ descended even into hell to take Adam by the hand and lead him out.

However low you are now, the floor you stand on is not deeper than hell.

Rise. Again. And again. Until your last breath.

Your soul has no wrinkles.

The body ages, worries accumulate, but the soul remains forever young, because it is breath from the breath of God. Only the heart sometimes forgets that it is a child.

Christ calls us back home:
“Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3).

He does not ask us to be great. He asks us to become small again. To be once more what we are: children of God, created in His image and called to likeness with Him.

But it is not about naivety. The Holy Apostle Paul clarifies for us:
“Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature” (1 Corinthians 14:20).

The innocence to which God calls us does not mean lack of mind, but lack of malice. It is a heart that does not remember evil, does not suspect, does not judge, and a mind that is awake, illuminated by grace.

Saint Isaac the Syrian teaches us how to stand before Him:
“When you stand in prayer before God, make yourself in your mind like an ant and like a babbling infant. Do not say anything from knowledge before Him, but approach Him with the mind of a child.”

The infant does not know beautiful words. He only knows how to stretch out his hands, and that is enough.

In every trial, fall, or fear, we do not need to be strong. It is enough to be humble and to cry out like a child: “Abba, Father, help me!” and “Most Holy Mother of God, do not abandon me!”

This is how the saints also reached innocence. Saint Seraphim of Sarov greeted everyone with “Christ is risen! My joy!” Saint Paisios of the Holy Mountain played with children and rejoiced in the smallest creatures. Saint Porphyrios wept with emotion while listening to a nightingale. Drawing near to God, they did not become more complicated. They became simpler, gentler, smaller.

Perhaps today you have no words. You don’t need them. Babble to your Father. He understands you.

The world has taught you to be strong. Christ calls you to be small.

Lord, make us children again.

Why?

The question that can save your soul.

The first question in the Bible after the Fall isn't asked by man.
It's asked by God:
"Adam, where are you?" (Genesis 3:9)

He wasn't looking for information. He was looking for His child.
And He's still asking.

So be honest for one minute:

Why do I feel lonely, even surrounded by people?
Why do I blame others for my own mistakes?
Why do I want things so badly, then feel empty the moment I have them?
Why do I scroll for an hour and get up more tired than before?
Why is everything in order around me, and nothing in order inside me?
These are not five problems. They are five symptoms of one wound.

We feel lonely because we were made for communion, and after the Fall man's first instinct was to hide: "I was afraid… and I hid myself" (Genesis 3:10).

We blame others because Adam did it first: "The woman whom You gave to be with me…" (Genesis 3:12). It's the oldest reflex of a heart that has turned from God.

We are never satisfied because we try to fill an infinite hunger with finite things.

We scroll because we long to be seen and loved. We were made to stand before the face of God, and we settle for likes.

We feel chaos inside because we've arranged everything except the heart.
Behind every "why" is the same answer: homesickness.

We miss God our Father, the Paradise where we were created, and a love that never ends.

St. Silouan the Athonite wrote: "My soul yearns after the Lord, and I seek Him in tears."
That ache in you is not your enemy. It's the memory of home.

But we went astray. The enemy whispered the same lie he told in Eden, "you will be like God" (Genesis 3:5), only without God. We believed him. We lost the path of truth, and the sincerity that sees clearly. We stopped paying attention to the unseen world, but it never stopped paying attention to us.

The way back starts where the Prodigal Son's did: "he came to himself" (Luke 15:17).
Before he could return to his father, he had to stop lying to himself.

The path is simple, though not easy:
• Sincerity: stop justifying yourself and start seeing.
• Keep asking "why?" until you reach the root, not just the symptom.
• Watchfulness (nepsis): guard your thoughts before they become actions.
• Listen to your conscience. St. Dorotheos of Gaza teaches that God placed it in us at creation like a divine spark. Don't let it go out.
• Come home through the Church with confession, prayer, and the Holy Eucharist. There the Father still runs to meet you (Luke 15:20).

God's question was never "Why did you fall?"
It was "Where are you?"

Answer Him honestly today.
That answer may be the beginning of your salvation.

[Father Christopher @FChristopher77]

“When a bad thought enters our mind, we get frightened and sometimes believe we have already become bad people. But not every thought that passes through our head is our choice.

One thing is the temptation; another is to welcome it, feed it, and turn it into action. This is where watchfulness is revealed!

We do not need to obsessively examine every flicker of the mind until we lose our peace. What we need is not to make a nest for evil.

If envy appears, let us not build arguments for it; if the desire for revenge appears, let us not prepare its plan. Let us return to prayer and to good work, and when thoughts overwhelm us, let us ask for guidance and the right help.

God does not ask us to control every involuntary appearance of a thought, but to learn what we choose to do with it. Not every guest knocking at the gate must be invited to the table.”

Ten Reasons Why We Venerate the Holy Relics.

[Father Christopher @FChristopher77]

You seek a spiritual father, but are you prepared to listen to him?

There are people who travel hundreds of kilometers in search of a skilled spiritual father, knock on the doors of monasteries, and run after words of benefit, hoping to meet a man of God who will light their path. It is the longing of a soul that no longer wants to wander alone.

But I wonder: once you have found him, are you ready to listen to him?

It is one thing to look for a spiritual father and another to allow yourself to be guided by him; it is one thing to ask for his counsel with tears in your eyes and another to receive with humility a word that does not match what you have already decided in your heart.

Sometimes a person crosses the country in search of a guide without realizing that he is not looking for the truth that could set him right, but for confirmation of his own convictions.

When he receives an answer that overturns his calculations, he begins to negotiate: he keeps what suits him, softens what hurts him, and twists what he has heard until the guidance ends up resembling his own will.

Thus, without understanding how far he has strayed from the purpose of his search, he no longer asks for direction but for the blessing of a decision already made.

And if the father does not confirm his thoughts, the judging begins: “He doesn’t understand me! He doesn’t know what I’m going through! He has no family; he doesn’t know what it means to raise children, to bear the cares of a marriage, and to struggle with daily problems. I know my situation better!”

Perhaps the father does not know every detail of your life. He is a man, not the knower of all the secrets of the heart. But did you come to find someone who would confirm that you are right, or to receive help in seeing what, from the midst of your suffering, you can no longer see clearly?

Did you humble yourself before asking for his counsel? Did you pray for the enlightenment of your mind and ask God to soften your heart so that you would not reject the very word you needed? Did you come with the sincere desire to understand what is beneficial for you, or determined to defend your own will?

Did you ask for light through the father’s guidance without judging everything solely by the measure of your own understanding? Were you prepared to listen, to ask for clarification when you do not understand, and to receive correction without turning every disagreement into an occasion for judgment?

You can sit for hours in front of a father and leave without benefit if your heart is not disposed to receive guidance. You can gather advice from ten monks and go to distant monasteries, but if you pass every word through the filter of your own pride, you will consider them all unskilled and trust only yourself.

How painful it is to seek light yet be unable to bear having the darkness within you revealed!

Of course, obedience does not mean abandoning discernment or treating every human word as the voice of God. Spiritual guidance is received with respect and examined in the spirit of faith and the teaching of the Church. It is one thing, however, to examine with humility and another to look, at any cost, for a reason to reject what discomforts you.

Perhaps, before asking God for a good spiritual father, we should also ask Him for a humble heart. Let us pray to receive the guide’s word not as a sentence that wounds our pride, but as a remedy for the soul, even when it is hard to accept. Let us carry it in prayer and ask for clarification when we do not understand.

It is not hard to find a father at whose door you may knock. What is hard is to open the door of your heart and acknowledge that, sometimes, it is not others who stand in your way, but your own will, which you are not willing to place before Christ.

It is not enough to find a guide. You must also have a heart ready to receive that guidance day by day, with peace and a humble heart.

(Nun Ierusalima)

[Father Christopher @FChristopher77]

Do you know what God feels when He comes to your heart and finds nothing?

The Sower returns to the field.

It is evening. A man stops at the edge of the field he sowed with his own hands. He chose the best seed and kept nothing for himself. He bends over the furrow and looks for a green shoot. He searches for a long time. And he finds none.

Christ told us the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13:3–9). We usually read it as a lesson about ourselves. Rarely do we stop at the man standing at the edge of the field and at what He feels.

Because the Sower is God. And the field is you.

The path, the rock, and the thorns

The seed was never at fault. Nor was the hand that scattered it, for it was not sown sparingly. The problem has always been the soil.

Some seeds fell on the path. This is the heart hardened by so many passages: worries, noise, thoughts we no longer choose. The Word reaches the ear but no longer finds the way to the heart.

Others fell on rocky ground. This is the heart that catches fire quickly. It weeps at a sermon, admires the saints, promises change. Then the first scorching heat comes and everything dries up, like a straw fire.

Others fell among thorns. This is the heart that wants both the good and everything else. Money, pride, quarrels, drunkenness, sexual immorality, the concern of appearing to be someone. They grow undisturbed beside the good shoot, until one day they choke it without a sound.

You do not have to look far for these three soils. You carry them all within you, on different days.

The Father’s sorrow

Have you ever seen a parent who gave everything for their child? And who now, grown old, sits at the window waiting for a phone call that no longer comes?

This is, in small measure, God’s sadness.

Or think of a gardener who tended a tree for years. He watered it, protected it from frost, propped it up when the wind bent it. Autumn comes with the basket in his hand. And he leaves with it empty.

God did not give us only a seed. He gave us His Son, the grain of wheat that fell into the ground and died so that it might bear much fruit (John 12:24). He buried His own life in our field.

Then He comes, day after day, to your heart. Not as a judge with the ledger open, but as a Father who hopes. He looks for a forgiveness, a sincere prayer, a hand extended to the one who has nothing. The fruit of His love is our love.

When He finds nothing, He does not grow angry. He grieves. And His grief is heavier than any anger, because it comes from love. Through the prophet Isaiah He asks about His vineyard what more He could have done for it that He did not do (Isaiah 5:4).

What answer would we give Him today?

It is not yet too late

And yet the Sower has not stopped. This should break our hearts more than anything else. He knows how many seeds have been lost in us, and He sows again with the same generous hand.

The path can be plowed. The rock can be broken. The thorns can be pulled out. The soil cannot change its past, but it can choose what it becomes.

He does not ask you for a hundred seeds tomorrow. He asks you for a single green shoot. A forgiveness postponed for years. A general confession. A prayer spoken from the heart, not from habit. A phone call to someone who is alone.

This evening, when He bends once more over your heart, let Him find something. Not out of duty, but because He loves you. Perhaps this time He will leave your field with joy.

Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.

The cause of all the evil in the world is our turning away from God, the Source of all good.

[Father Christopher @FChristopher77]

Once, while praying before the icon of the Mother of God, Saint Gregory Palamas asked her for one thing: that nothing would stand between him, his disciples, and perfect stillness.

He also asked her to take care of their ordinary needs, so the search for bread would never steal the hours meant for prayer.

She appeared. Dressed simply, as the icons show her, and followed by a company of beings made of light. She turned to them and said:

“From now on, you will serve Gregory and his disciples. Give them whatever they need.”

He came back to himself already answered. Later he would say: “From that moment, I found every bodily need with ease, wherever I was.”

The man who taught the Church about uncreated light had first asked the Mother of God for quiet, and for bread. She gave him both.

Today's Gospel (Luke 5:1–11).

A whole night on the water. Empty nets.

Tired hands washing them on the shore.
And Christ steps into the boat of the man who caught nothing.

If your night was long and your nets are empty, this Gospel is for you.

"Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing."

This is every soul that labors without grace.

But Peter adds: "Nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net."

One word of obedience did what a whole night of effort could not.

"Launch out into the deep."
St. Macarius says the heart is a small vessel, yet in it are dragons and lions. In it too are God, the angels, life and the Kingdom.

The deep Christ calls you to is your own heart.

Peter fell at His knees: "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"

The nearer the Light, the more clearly we see our darkness.

St. Isaac the Syrian says that one who sees his own sins is greater than one who raises the dead.

St. Theophylact notices that Christ called the Magi through a star and the fishermen through fish.

He knocks at every heart with the key that fits it.
A hunter, through a deer.
A sorcerer, through his own failed spells.
An actor, on the stage where he mocked Him.

Placidas, a Roman general, chased a stag alone into the wilderness. Between its antlers he saw a shining cross with Christ crucified, and heard: "Placidas, why do you persecute Me?"
The Lives of the Saints say God "hunted the hunter."

Cyprian was the most famous sorcerer in Antioch. He sent demons against a young Christian woman, Justina. She drove them all away with the sign of the Cross.
He burned his books of magic, was baptized, and died a martyr beside her.

Gelasius was an actor, ordered to mock baptism on stage. He went into the water as a joke and came out a Christian. He was martyred for it.
Grace caught him on the very stage where he mocked it.

He did not wait for them to become holy first. He came into their boat, their trade, their sin, their night.

He is standing now on the shore of your heart.

Let down the net at His word.

What did He call you through?
