Public announcement was delayed until the site could be secured and remains closed to visitors. The coins are being recovered by archaeologists from Innlandet County Authority and transported to the Coin Cabinet at the Museum of Cultural History in Oslo.

The Norwegian coins in the hoard are of particular interest. Harald Hardrada introduced a national coinage system around 1045 after returning from Byzantium. Prior to this new coinage, foreign silver coins dominated trade in Norway.
