The tale of Emeth: The Last Battle, C.S. Lewis
“So I went over much grass and many flowers and among all kinds of wholesome and delectable trees till lo! in a narrow place between two rocks there came to meet me a great Lion.
I can’t remember the last time a federal event ran as smoothly as this one did from start to finish. The July 4th flyover for America’s 250th was incredible. The more we celebrate this nation’s roots, the more we can return them.
No one should "step aside" b/c of allegations no matter how serious, but b/c allegations are true. That's why Kavanaugh didn't & shouldn't have stepped aside & Republicans supported him. And why Dems are calling on Platner to step aside--they know it's true & knew it long before!
@PPG_P95@politicalmath > "Nobody should ever ask anyone to sacrifice for the common good, even if it's just a polite request" is just dipsh*t nihilism.
The essence of knocking down the strawman.
The strawman is that he presumes "conservatives" ignore the common good in their decisions. Conservatives are every bit as compassionate and generous as liberals. There are other reasons conservatives see the lecture about sacrificing comfort for "the common good" as posturing. I don't believe we are any less willing to do that.
@politicalmath Regardless of the news claim, Jeremiah's argument (re: conservatives) is a straw man.
I've engaged in and even promoted recycling, and I did my best to follow the covid guidance - right up until the mandates started coming down.
Or maybe I'm not conservative enough? 😅
@GenericSnarky Yes, I'm a supporter of Wikipedia (at a low level). Be advised that this editor did not prevail - the page still exists and has had this banner removed. @CommunityNotes

@realspitfire Fortunately I have years of using Wikipedia and have thorough experience with its faults. Translates extremely well to using AI. Both *incredibly* useful tools, but dangerous if used carelessly.
@BillClinton What a wonderful day for you to trot out these tired lies again. You haven't noticed we recognize these after the constant repetition of recent years?
@pensandpoison So what American food do you *like*, since you have a low opinion of hamburgers? I've had some really good ones (often), and btw I like some European culture also (including ballet).
For most of my childhood, I was embarrassed to be an American.
I grew up in a Soviet immigrant household where “Amerikantsi” was practically an insult. I dreamed of moving to Europe, believed the American Dream was a myth, and couldn’t understand why my parents had ever left.
Then I learned why my dad came here in the first place. He had been imprisoned for being Jewish—and America gave him freedom.
Today, I can’t believe how lucky I am to have the honor and the privilege to be the first American in my family. I will love this place forever and can’t wait to celebrate many more years of innovation, prosperity, and freedom.
Happy 250th birthday, America! 🇺🇸
@GovLarryRhoden delivered a quote from a speech by Calvin Coolidge in 1926. In essence, the guiding principles in The Declaration of Independence and our Nation derive from the faith, confirmed and delivered by our forebears, in an eternal God; and these are not subject to revision.
@side_nut They can't see that the power of love for America is greater than the love of (very great) power, as exemplified in @POTUS President Trump. And that indeed is leading to more peace.
"Managing the shift back and forth between carrots and sticks — diplomatic talk and kinetic violence — is going to be a complicated process. It will require a lot more patience and tolerance than is normal for the American people, the Congress, or the news media."
It seems like every other day something goes wrong, either in kinetic action or in words. Then the news media enthusiastically overreacts and frames whatever happened as a potential crisis.
Yet, the larger pattern is understandable.
I don’t have any secret knowledge, but I do have an understanding of history. This includes about the Iranian dictatorship and the way these negotiations are handled.
