Our new analysis of Act 20 reading data for Wisconsin. Despite the seeming effort of DPI to hide the data by releasing it right after Thanskgiving on a weekend--something I've never seen them do before--it's impossible to hide public ed's continual failure on reading.
So he called lowering standards a mistake. He criticized the process used to make the changes. We put a bill on his desk to restore the standards he implemented.
He vetoes it. Makes perfect sense. #disappointed
As expected, DPI is falling itself to explain what they did. But the argument is simple. We should expect more from our kids, not less. The standards shouldn’t have been lowered. Period full stop. It was, as the governor said, a mistake.
I’m beyond tired of seeing @MilwaukeeMPS earn its way to the bottom of these lists by failing to educate far too many of our city’s young people - MKE students are brilliant and our families deserve better.
MKE can’t thrive until we get serious about changing this reality.
Students need to be safe before they can learn. Returning the SROs to MPS helps make that possible. It’s a shame it came to this, but thanks to @WILawLiberty for pushing.
The law couldn’t be more clear. MPS needs to put School Resource Officers back into the schools. This is great news that a Milwaukee Judge agrees with what we’ve been saying for months. It’s bonkers that it took a lawsuit to get MPS to follow the law.
EXCLUSIVE: A Milwaukee County judge has ordered Milwaukee Public Schools to return 25 resource officers to schools by February 17th. MPS has been in violation of state law for more than a year by refusing to do so.
It's pretty simple @DrJillUnderly:
22 to 19 on the ACT is lowering the bar
"Meeting , Below College Ready" isn't OK
Leaders across the spectrum from @GovEvers to @SpeakerVos, & orgs across the spectrum from @ppi to @WILawLiberty, aren't all "getting it wrong"
My office has obtained the “plan” MPS submitted to DPI to try to fix their financial reporting crisis. It’s pretty obvious why this wasn’t sufficient to stop DPI from withholding funds.
There’s no urgency on finding immediate solutions.
The new estimated surplus of $3.8 billion is fantastic news for our state. Sound Republican budgeting continues to pay dividends.
We will continue to prioritize returning this money to taxpayers to ensure the strength of family budgets in the future. Read my full statement ⤵️
Take a good look at this young woman, remember her name. Because in two days, her story will disappear.
She was murdered while doing what teens do, yet the JS wants to focus on voting rights for former felons.

Today, I joined once again with members of the Waukesha County legislative delegation asking for Governor Evers to remove John Chisholm as Milwaukee County DA. It's time for the Governor to act. https://t.co/mX5XqQOrAT
The abuse of our national guard as a "fill in" labor force to compensate for bad policies from failing executives will continue to dramatically hurt readiness in states that overuse them and hurt our national security overall as the primary combat reserve force of the U.S. army.
So proud of it that he proposed a billion dollar tax increase in his own budget, complained about the GOP tax cut the entire time and only reluctantly signed the proposal when he had no other choice.
This is one of the most tone-deaf and out-of-touch pieces I’ve read from the @WiStateJournal editorial board, which says a lot.
I guess the “settle for less under Biden” messaging has reached Wisconsin.

@EBrooksUncut I just think you're being unfair. A 2 cent reduction per gallon over a 2 week period is pretty impressive, just look at the graph and don't ask too many questions
No one represents science. Science is never settled. It's a process to discover new knowledge and to challenge old concepts.
Anyone who says otherwise is the real anti-science.
Lawmakers like Sens. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz have called for Dr. Fauci to step down and be prosecuted over the course of COVID-19. Fauci scoffs at such threats, calling it "noise."
"They're really criticizing science because I represent science. That's dangerous."
