On this day 20 years ago, Mario Kart DS released in Europe.

It has since sold over 23.6 million copies and was the first Nintendo game to feature online multiplayer.

Mario Kart DS is still being played today by many and has one of the most passionate online communities.

PeiPwi, hailing from Venezuela, becomes the first person to sub 1'35 on Waluigi Pinball. And along the way becomes the first to hit the new SC shroomless. Congrats!

As ESA Winter 2024 comes to a close, I'd like to summarise my feelings about the last week or so.

However short lived, I had a brilliant time and it was a privilege to have been able to show off Mario Kart DS again at a major speedrunning marathon. Thank you so much again @esamarathon for the opportunity and to everyone for watching in person and online. All of the people behind the scenes do amazing work to make this event possible, and for a good cause. Please keep supporting ESA!

Thank you @TiBiUan, @MarioKart_DS, @TheRealMKDS1992 and @Ruubzz_ for making the journey to Sweden to co-commentate the run and to hang out for a few days. Thank you Stefan for fixing the DS R button as well on such short notice. Special shout out goes to Puddings for the dragon of a journey (3 planes) she had to slay in order to get here. To anybody I missed/failed to recognise in person, I am very sorry! I am atrocious with names. I also regret not speaking to more people as well, but oh well.

I have also, for the first time ever, been voted as Mario Kart DS Player of the Year 2023. This one means a lot to me because Time Trials are in my roots and it's truly an honour to sit alongside true greats I've seen win the award over the past 17 years. Thank you so much!
