The "Western Mind" struggles to understand people like Putin, because the "West" lives on merchant-like agreements, negotiations, and deals (especially people like Trump). They don't understand that Putin speaks the language of power ... taking until stopped, disrespecting those who show weakness, etc. Cognitive dissonance results ... but must be defeated. Any member of the West who takes off their blinders (it sounds like Macron has finally started to understand) will start reacting appropriately. Trump has not.

And while someone may say that Trump is bullying allies like Canada and the EU and playing "power" ... no, he's still "deal-making" through bullying. It's still fundamentally different from how Putin operates.
