We have a new and improved version of our manuscript on stickleback spermatogenesis. Based on some helpful peer reviewers, we highlight two new discoveries related to the young (ish) sex chromosomes. https://t.co/QFmbDlnrjj
Lastly, we added analyses to bolster our main claim, that there is no meiotic silencing on the stickleback sex chromomes. To do this, we compared our cell types across multiple single cell datasets from other fish and experimented with diverse clustering algorithms and software.

Secondly, we show that while the X chromosome does not show a strong pattern of the faster X effect overall, testis X-linked genes do show faster coding evolution than autosomes, providing more evidence that the faster X effect is stronger in male specific genes.
We have a new preprint out investigating sex-linked gene expression across stages of spermatogenesis in stickleback fish. and how meiotic expression has shaped the evolution of the recently derived sex chromosomes. https://t.co/3zF87niRCT
Hey #evolution2024 I am recruiting a postdoc, starting as early as September 2024, to work on a variety of evolutionary genomics projects in my lab at UC Riverside. Project specifics are flexible, and the position is renewable up to five years. Please RT and get in touch!
"Our results suggest that hybridization can significantly influence the recombination landscape, and that the reduction in allele shuffling contributes to the initial purging of introgression in the generations following a hybridization event." https://t.co/LUVDXzPZWF
The lab is hiring a postdoctoral fellow to work on the historical and contemporary population genomics of invasive capeweed! Collaborative work with @shaky_dingo , Tim Conallon, Akane Uesugi, and Allan Ellis, please share on whatever platforms are cool! https://t.co/Bwmgval9Dm
We also discuss the most recent approaches of assembling complex Y and W chromosomes and highlight some future directions of studying sex chromosome evolution.
Check out our review paper! We examined empirical studies on sex chromosomes from many species in the context of the recent theoretical focus on cis-regulatory evolution on the X and Y.
