💡 Today’s Domaining Tip 💡 What Is a REAL Upgrade (and what is not) One of the biggest mistakes in outbound is pitching domains that are not true upgrades. If you understand this concept, you’ll stop wasting time sending emails that get 0 replies. Let’s break it down clearly 👇 ⸻ ✅ What Is a TRUE Upgrade? An upgrade makes the brand: •Shorter •Cleaner •More authoritative •More premium •More intuitive for users If the company upgrades, their brand position clearly improves. ⸻ 1️⃣ Removing Extra Words = Upgrade Getalphanow .com → getalpha .com → alpha .com Each step: •Shorter •More brandable •More powerful Another example: •BestCryptoApp .com → CryptoApp .com → Crypto .com Clear ladder of improvement. ⸻ 2️⃣ Singular / Cleaner Core = Often Upgrade Example: •Homes .com → Home .com Even though plurals can perform well, the pure root word is usually more premium. Another example: •Cars .com → Car .com Shorter core = stronger brand asset. ⸻ 3️⃣ Any SLD.tld → SLD .com (Massive Upgrade) This is the strongest and easiest upgrade logic. Examples: •Notion .so → Notion .com •Myhome .co → Myhome .com •Mindmesh .net → Mindmesh .com Moving to .com: •Increases authority •Reduces traffic leakage •Builds trust •Improves memorability For funded startups, this is often the ultimate brand move. ⸻ 4️⃣ Removing Hyphens or Awkward Structure •Best-Discount .com → BestDiscount .com •My-Systems .net → MySystems .com Cleaner structure = stronger brand perception. ⸻ 5️⃣ When “My” or Generic Prefix Is Weak If “my” is not part of the brand identity, removing it is usually an upgrade: •MySystem .com → System .com •MyHealthApp .com → HealthApp .com But be careful: If “My” IS the brand (like MyFitnessPal), then it’s not removable. ⸻ ❌ What Is NOT an Upgrade? This is where most domainers fail. Just because a domain is available doesn’t mean it’s an upgrade. ⸻ 1️⃣ Same Meaning, Different Structure = Competitive Advantage (Not Upgrade) Example: •bitcoin .now •bitcoinnow .com This is NOT a clear upgrade. It’s just: •A defensive asset •A competitive alternative Same with: •uber .taxi •ubertaxi .com Not an upgrade. Just a parallel brand version. ⸻ 2️⃣ Longer Version of a Brand •Mywatch .com → premiumwatch .com That’s not an upgrade. That’s a downgrade. ⸻ 3️⃣ Adding Words That Don’t Improve Authority •TeslaCarShop .com → TeslaShopNow .com Neither improves the core brand. Upgrade must improve brand power, not just change structure. ⸻ 4️⃣ Switching Two Keywords With No Meaning Improvement If you just flip or rearrange two words but the meaning does not improve, it is NOT an upgrade. Example: CryptoLoans .com → LoansCrypto .com Unless one version is clearly more natural and brandable, it’s just a variation not an upgrade. ⸻ 🛡 What Is what I call a Competitive / Concurrent Advantage (CCA)? This is NOT an upgrade. This is a strategic asset. It does not replace their brand. It strengthens their position. Example 👇 If a company owns: Kraken .com You cannot upgrade them. But you can sell them: BTCPayment .com BTCPayments .com Why? Because: •They can redirect it •Capture transactional traffic •Block competitors •Strengthen SEO positioning •Own high-intent keywords That is a Competitive Advantage Asset (CAA/CCA). It adds strategic value, not brand elevation. ⸻ 🧠 The Golden Rule Ask yourself: “If they switch to this domain, does their brand instantly become stronger?” If YES → it’s an upgrade. If NO → don’t waste time outbounding. ⸻ 🚀 Why This Matters Real upgrades: •Get replies •Get calls •Get serious offers Fake upgrades: •Get ignored •Hurt your credibility •Waste months of effort ⚠️🚨 Share this before it’s too late. AI is replacing jobs… Digital assets are replacing salaries.
