@rover4fun The 20mins was the network outage caused by hosting provider's DHCP outage (now confirmed retrospectively) that coincided with the lease expiring.

The reboot that did the kernel upgrade was quick and I was taking the opportunity to do it while there was no network

GM! There has been a ~20 minute outage between 8:27 and 8:47 CET.
VM lost networking and got it back.
I also rebooted and there went my 400+ days uptime but the kernel is upgraded.
