ChatGPT influencers keep saying DATA SCIENCE IS OVER!
That's wrong.
Now that anybody can use machines to WRITE code, people who deeply UNDERSTAND what the code is doing are more VALUABLE than ever.
Here are my favorite books for data science beginners:
The way I see it, the FDA putting warning labels on deodorant reminding you not to eat it is no different than a government agency pointing out disinformation on social media. It’s to protect the lives of idiots.
And it’s only the idiots that mad about it.
@drjudymelinek From a laboratory perspective, if you're testing negative 2x in two consecutive days with an antigen test you're less likely to be infectious, although the tests aren't as good at detecting omicron, so I would additionally make a judgement on if symptoms are "resolving".
@kareem_carr Not quite what you asked but instead of another subscription or newsletter thing (there are so many of them now that it's hard to keep track!) I would really appreciate and would pay for a one-off of a specific long form content thing.
I really like teaching people about data science and statistics ideas but I do it for free in my spare time which isn't sustainable.
I want to transition to supporting myself but I need your help to do it.

The danger to your kids isn’t the rainbow crop top at target. It’s the semi automatic rifle with a high capacity magazine legally sold in the parking lot with no background check.
If you're a corporate marketing officer concerned over what's happening with Target, let me make something abundantly clear: you will never appease anti-LGBTQ extremists. They don't want *some* concessions. They want all of them. But there's a colder truth at play here.

I don’t care about the narrative you want to create, from the safety of where you stand now.
Do not try to reimagine the environment and the challenges so many of my colleagues felt on the frontlines, 3 years ago, when we knew almost nothing.
My colleagues died.
@lighthousekat@AndreaR9Md Respectfully, not cool. Health is a HUMAN right. No one gets to choose where they are born. It's incredibly privileged to assume you can (or frankly should) just uproot yourself from your home, history, community just because politicians don't respect your life there
@sama I work in public health as a civil servant. I can tell you right now that we have radically different funding and priorities depending on the political administration. The science and evidence based programs don't change every election year. Guess what does though.
SUMMARY:
This is a bad use of data.
- misleading format
- poor organization
- missing context
- confounding by age, income and probably many other factors
- naive use of a poor outcome measure (violent crime)
I'm suing.
The recent actions violate my 1st amendment rights, as well as the rights of my 11,000 constituents to representation.
Montana's State House is the people’s House, not Speaker Regier’s, and I’m determined to defend the right of the people to have their voices heard.
