A historic event happened in Delhi on Friday (7 Aug)

More than 200 representatives and leaders from diverse sections of society gathered at Constitution Club of India and unanimously signed a Declaration opposing the lowering of age of consent from 18 to 16 years

The gathering included
- Heads of Child Commissions from Assam, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura
- Heads of Women Commissions from Tripura, Uttar Pradesh
- Panchayat leaders
- Activists working for safety of children and women

We all held detailed discussions and forged a consensus. Signed the Declaration

Most importantly, every one resolved to start a public awareness campaign at the grassroots to take it to villages and communities

The event was very ably organised by @NetworkforJus and supported by us @sewanyaya along with @DharmanshF

As many of you know, we started the campaign after Indira Jaisingh proposed lowering of age of consent under rape laws in a Supreme Court matter in May 2025

We filed our own intervention in the matter and enabled 10 interventions more. It has not come up for hearing since

Recently, when a Supreme Court bench said that “15-18 is age of experimentation” - observation was made in a case of a 25-year-old man ‘consensually’ impregnating a 15-year-old girl - we intervened again

Next hearing is that matter expected on 11 August

We will now take the awareness to grassroots and will not stop until the idea is totally discarded.

EXCLUSIVE: 16-17-year-old Rehan allegedly tried to sexually assault a 6-year-old Hindu girl child in Nalasopara, Maharashtra.

Second such attempt by him.

Locals caught him and handed him over to the police. But the police have allegedly not registered any FIR yet.

According to the activists in the video, police are calling the accused a "small kid" and sparing him.

The victim's family is too frightened to go to the police station.

Locals say the accused's mother downplayed the incident, saying they will deal with it if it happens a third time.
