@bradleyforco I’m so sorry you are enduring this experience with your son. We have a free resource for families in the ICU. Here’s a link if you and your family might find it helpful: https://t.co/w6xMfMWWJz
Be gritty. Sometimes that’s just all it is. This is a season and like all things worth working for, it requires grit.
I wish I had sometime more profound, but it’s really that simple.
She waited long enough for me to submit my #tenuredossier
7 years, 3 babies…building family and an academic career at the same time has not been easy, but there’s been a lot of joy along the way.
What I’ve learned, a 🧵
@Momademia
Adjust expectations. Little kids are hard. I’ve yet to meet anyone that says the years between 1-4 were the easiest. So, don’t expect it to be and take it as a win when you get a day that no one yells about a snack.
Doesn't matter how much tech gets thrown at healthcare - humans heal humans. Full stop.
Tech can should support those relationships, not replace them.
@familyroomcares asked patients and families drive the solution. Excited to see the response - launching DTC 2025!
There's a whole lot of health-tech companies who think AI must be part of their core messaging. But it's really what investors want to hear; I'm not convinced it'll win over patients or clinicians.

@chrissyfarr I recognize my bias in this statement, but nurse scientists are the most underrated asset and untapped resource that could help revolutionize our current care system. Nurses know the problems and have the solutions - they just don't have a seat at the table.
@femalequotient Update, I'm having another baby in 4 weeks. Nothing has changed. Except for childcare costs - it has doubled.
"Enjoy your time off"
"Get a Gmail account so you can still stay connected"
I still have to use 4 weeks of vacation to get a 3 month leave.
@chrissyfarr Further encouragement - its gotten easier, age helps. My 2 year old, I'm still hiding veggies. My 5 year old, picks which veggie she'd like for dinner each night and I have her help me cook them.
@chrissyfarr Food processor & hide them. I'm not a fan of lying to my children, but there's a time and a place....
We rotate: savory pancakes, muffins, anything in a tortilla or roll.
Always allow a "dip"
Dinner tonight: turkey pep pizza muffins (hidden veggie = carrots)
#maternityleave should not require 2 years of strategically banking 160+ vacation hours in order to get paid.
The reality of #motherhood in #academia. We’re supposed to be leaders in progressive policy, this is just sad.
I will die on this hill.
@AcademicMamas@Momademia
Return to office mandates don't just motivate junior people to jump ship. They lose talent at the top too.
When tech companies started requiring attendance, senior leaders were more likely to leave for competitors.
Flexibility is an investment in retention at all levels.
I’ve never been so entertained in my life. And, evidently neither have the 8th graders…who have evidently created an official unicorn kitty #Facebook page
Maybe we should all just vote for
unicorn kitty this year. 🦄😸
#WeThePeople#UnitedStates#USPresidentialelection2024
So, for this latest trip, the two of them came up with a plan. Beloved unicorn kitty was packed in his backpack and sent on an adventure. Along with 76 8th graders from #Omaha, unicorn kitty is getting the trip of a lifetime.
She is now giving me tours through the house, just like dad. Tonight’s lesson in her own words, “This is the Washington statue. He was our 1st president and now he’s dead”.
