“Clearing the cognitive hurdle when something needs to be done for your
patient".
When no action is not an
option and identifying that other
resources are not available and no
one else is better qualified or
experienced, the rural physician
makes the choice to act.
Clinical courage is working at the edge of your clinical scope to meet the needs of your patients. This is our bread & butter. Rural clinicians are courageous. We are brave & we work towards morally worthy goals.
Proud to belong to this tribe 🥰

Top tip for juniors from @bdodds12 & @BelotMegan - be empowered to set your work-life boundaries; think about what this looks like for you & your family (and remember it’s dynamic & will change over your career - and that’s ok!!) #rma23
Good question, @bdodds12 - Do we need to redefine what “success” looks like in terms of recruitment & retention in rural & remote Australia 🤔 @ACRRM#RMA23
“It’s not about the money, it’s about living your best life” - Dr Megan Belot @RuralDoctorsAus@ACRRM
👆👆👆 Absolutely!! Big discussions at #RMA23 about how we can be our best selves & hit the right balance… can we really have it all?

Working in rural health, we tend to accumulate lots of hats & we’re very busy… time away from work is precious & we tend to prioritise the fun stuff (rather than seeking medical care)… Dr Sue Masel #RMA23@rural_doctors
Totally identify with this!!
Thanks for the RT, @nomadicgp - I hope you’re enjoying being back home in WA after your Canadian stint. If you’re ever looking for a sea change or find yourself back on the locum circuit, please come & play on TI!
We can’t underestimate the value of collegial connection in fostering wellbeing and togetherness in what can be an otherwise isolating work day. I’ve had so many life changing and simply ordinary conversations in the tearoom. #justagp#tearoom#wellbeing#intangibleinvestments

"What is the level of deliverable (health) care that is both possible for the health system and acceptable to the community?" - the tough conversation that Australia needs to have but keeps shying away from...
@KeysJaninepkane@inquisitiveGyn Yes! Absolutely agree. I’ve often said “how can I help you?” or “what can I do for you today?” but these days lean towards “what would you like to talk about today?”, I guess to make it feel a little less transactional... open to other thoughts...?
@inquisitiveGyn Fab clothes/accessories definitely. Kids/family. Weekend plans/activities. Local sporting team (definitely around Origin time). My favourite is “where are you (or your family) from”... and then learning new things about the wonderful Torres Strait Islands 🌴
