Tomorrow (July 23, 2020) City Council will be discussing the topic of mandating masks for the City of #Edmonton. Read my statement below.

Quebec Cree Nation police force have never shot at anyone in 36 years of policing. The 110 constables serve 9 communities with a population of 20,000. All incidents are deescalated. #INDIGENOUS#Police#PoliceBrutality
This is so dangerous. You're putting your life at risk. Please Albertans let's work together to get rid of COVID-19. #ableg#abhealth

Poverty & homelessness are not choices.
In fact, none of the people I have ever cared for wanted to be in poverty or experience homelessness.
These constructs are the result of oppressive policies, discrimination and an overall lack of compassion.
Just a gentle reminder that the average life expectancy for people experiencing homelessness in Canada is still 34-47 years old.

"No one wants to call it outright #racism nowadays because we don’t like using that word anymore because Canada is supposed to be wonderful and multicultural but it’s still there and you can see it there in institutional like ways" (Immigrant Service Provider, 2016 Focus Group)
@jkenney@MattWolfAB Because you thought it would get your base mobilized to support you, but it backfired in a painful and embarrassing way that reminded you how many people actually do t support you??? #ableg#abpoli
I want to assure anyone who wishes to address #YEGcc on issues of racism and injustice, as well present alternative approaches to community safety, that tomorrow (among other steps) I will be calling for a Public Hearing ASAP to hear from our community. #blmyeg#blacklivesmatter
Dispatches from the Prairies.
A thread
1/ A little over a week ago, I tweeted some of my experiences as a Black woman on the Prairies. I have been Black on the Prairies for 20 years. Here, blackness is considered foreign, an oddity in the landscape, at best a question mark.
Most people do not wake up and say my mission is to be racist today. However many have conscious bias, unconscious bias, assumptions, fear and insecurities etc and all these can lead to racism especially in situations of unequal power relations
Dear media: Racism is a fact - it is not alleged. Racism is against the law - it is not a debate. There are no sides to racism - there is perpetrator & victim. There are no bad apples - the bunch is rotten. The media plays a key role in racism - you can excuse it or call it out.
Disgusting: It tells quite a bit about @Alberta_UCP, when its Founding Chairman ignorantly curses at @HonAhmedHussen, upon raising the existing issue of Racism in Canada. Rather than deleting his account, I call on @jkenney & @LeelaAheer to condemn this ignorance. #AbLeg#abpoli
