Zimbabwe is set to dramatically scale up access to Lenacapavir, the long-acting injectable HIV prevention drug, after securing additional support from the Global Fund through the United States Department of State.

The new funding will add 43,000 more doses to Zimbabwe’s rollout programme, increasing the national target to approximately 46,500 users in 2026. Early uptake data already shows strong demand, especially among women and adults aged between 25 and 39 years, with health officials describing Lenacapavir as a “preferred prevention method” due to its convenience and long-acting protection.
