The whole thing makes me think of Dawkins fighting to secularise everyone with the naive idea that the result would be pure logic.

Waking up from the dream of everyone being identical could have a backlash in the opposite direction to what Cofnas' wants.

This is a particularly poor line of reasoning; there's no reason to think even acceptance of "HBD" would lead to meritocracy or abolition of DEI regime - in fact, there's more reason to think the exact opposite: If people are born unequal then why not use gov to force equality on them?

This is problem types like Hanania or Cofnas or others have. They seem to think that you can just tell some aggrieved minority that has weaponized resentment towards you that "you're dumb" and University system will be fixed. Not going to work.

Anthropic just launched the research preview of the Model Hardware Standard (MHS). It's a new shared interface that lets AI agents safely operate real lab and manufacturing equipment.

Today, connecting an AI system to physical hardware usually takes days or weeks of custom integration. Each instrument has its own software, devices don’t talk to each other, and there is no standard way for an agent to discover, control, or use them safely. MHS is designed to cut that integration time to hours or minutes.

The standard works by giving each device a common driver with simple primitives (“read temperature,” “set position,” etc.) plus natural language descriptions of how the machine actually behaves: weight, safety limits, what it can measure, what can go wrong. Agents can then discover devices on a network and orchestrate them through MCP, the command line, or code files. That last option matters: once the agent learns a procedure, it can package the steps into a deterministic script so the hardware can run without the model reasoning at every millisecond.

Early results are already concrete:

> At Genentech, an agent ran a real drug discovery protein assay with live error handling across a liquid handler, robotic arm, and plate reader.

> At HHMI Janelia, imaging work that previously took weeks was compressed to a day.

> At QuEra, an agent improved laser lock/stabilization on a quantum computer from 58% to 99.3% success without human intervention. That one particularly impressed me.

> Other labs (University of Washington, Carnegie Mellon) used it to speed serial dilutions, watch qPCR in real time, and coordinate incompatible instruments across multiple computers.

Anthropic is being explicit about the limits: current models still lack strong physical intuition because they learned the world from text and images. Researchers still had to teach the system that foaming in a sample is a physical failure, not a software bug. The research preview exists to build better safety evaluations before MHS is open sourced. But, this is exactly how it learns, and eventually acquires that physical intuition.

The longer term implication is that if AI agents can reliably run microscopes, liquid handlers, lasers, and robotic arms (and a lot more) under one standard, autonomous labs and factories become much more practical.

That is a direct path to faster science, higher experimental throughput, and tighter loops between hypothesis and result.
