Doctor Strange didn't pick the 1 in 14,000,605 timeline because it was the only way to beat Thanos. he picked it because it was the only timeline that got rid of both Thanos AND Tony Stark at the same time.

go back and watch how Strange talks to Tony on the ship. he realized early on that a guy smart enough to build Ultron and time travel in a weekend was eventually going to be a bigger threat to the multiverse than Thanos ever was.

the avengers don't just lose in avengers doomsday. earth-616 gets completely destroyed, and one line in the wakanda teaser proved it.

when the fantastic four meet m'baku, shuri says the king's duty is "to prepare our people for the afterlife."

in the secret wars comics, earth-616 dies in the incursion, so black panther and reed richards secretly build a "lifeboat" pod to survive the end of the multiverse. every doomsday teaser is showing who makes the lifeboat:

wakanda & fantastic four: shuri and reed combine vibranium and 828 tech to build the lifeboat.
thor & love: thor puts his daughter on the lifeboat and stays behind to hold off doom.
x-men (cyclops, magneto & professor x): earth-10005 falls first, and only a few mutants escape.
steve rogers & loki (endgame encore): loki pulls cap from the 1950s before his timeline branch dies.
franklin richards, hulk & sentry: doom captures them to stitch the dead earths into battleworld.

infinity war ended with half the universe turning to dust. doomsday ends with earth-616 dying completely.

I don't think Tony forgot anything. Look at what he actually did against Thanos in Endgame. He had the energy blades out, then he took Thor's lightning into the suit and fired all eight repulsors at once. That's the one move that actually suppressed Thanos.

What took him out wasn't the suit. Thanos grabbed him, used him as a shield, and Mjolnir knocked him out. And this is the same Thanos who beat the Mark 50 on Titan when Tony threw missiles, battering rams and traps at him and nothing worked.

If you want to blame someone for forgetting weapons, blame the plan. Tony used what worked and the fight went wrong around him.

As a fan of comic Thor, it genuinely frustrates me whenever Marvel heavily nerfs his character. Thor wielding Stormbreaker is on a completely different level compared to him with Mjolnir. Yet somehow, an enraged, full-power attack from Stormbreaker Thor gets blocked by Doctor Doom using just two fingers? Give me a break. And let's not even talk about how easily the Fantastic Four defeated Doom in the 2005 film.
