“Migrants, illegal or legal, weren’t responsible for austerity. That was the Conservative government. Migrants and ‘illegals’ were not responsible for Brexit. Migrants were not responsible for Liz Truss’ failure of leadership.”

Tony Blair:
“I remember a conversation in the Brexit debate
He said to me ‘you're this typical elite, trying to say you know more about it than I do’
But do you know what I said to them?
I DO know more because I've been prime minister for 10yrs”

Meet Catherine Crean of number 8 Moore Street, Dublin and, later, Brussels where she helped Allied airmen get to safety during WWll. This is the very first time a photograph of her has been published. We thought it fitting to introduce her today, as we launch 'The Irish in the Resistance', the story of the ordinary Irish people who defied Hitler.
For many years, the few in Ireland who knew Catherine's name did not know what she looked like. My co-author John Morgan first heard of her from a fellow member of the Belgian Resistance, Nadine, who spoke of Catherine's last days at Ravensbrück concentration camp.
That poignant encounter marked the beginning of 15 years of research to find out more about Catherine and all the others whose names have been forgotten.
Today, we are extremely privileged to present the stories of some 60 Irish people who joined the Resistance across Europe - and beyond. They bore arms, gathered intelligence, helped Allied airmen, hid fugitives, committed acts of sabotage and broke codes. Some of them even died for the Resistance.
We hope these people will live on through you, the readers of this book.
The Irish in the Resistance is out now!
It will be launched at Hodges Figgis on Dawson Street at 6pm. See you there!
