Lagos Governorship aspirant, Funsho Doherty, claims less than 10,000 people use the Lagos Blue Line operating from CMS to Mile 2 therefore the infrastructure is not justified.

But the rail line from CMS to Mile 2 is actually the busiest train station in Lagos, especially on weekdays where it sees rush hours at the close of work where Lagosians working on the island use it to transport themselves back to the mainland.

And according to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the blue line actually transports 15,000 daily passengers.

Focusing on the first E in our THEMES+ agenda, which is Education and Technology, the Tolu Schools Complex in Ajegunle sits on nearly 12 hectares and serves about 20,000 students across 36 schools, both primary and secondary.

Before the upgrade, many of the buildings were in poor condition. Today, the entire complex has been rebuilt and expanded, marking its most significant transformation since it was established over 40 years ago.

New classroom blocks have been added to reduce overcrowding. The facilities now include a football pitch, sports courts, a health centre, a fire station, and essential services like solar power and improved water systems.

There is also a clear focus on inclusion. Dedicated buildings for students with disabilities have been introduced, along with lifts to make movement easier within the complex. A vocational centre is now in place, offering training in practical skills such as tailoring, plumbing, and masonry.

With an ICT hub and a central laboratory, students are better positioned to engage with science and technology in a more hands-on way.

Overall, the project creates a more supportive and functional learning environment for a densely populated community.

I took my crew on a ride from Lagos to Ijebu Ode, a journey of 115km, passing through one of the fastest-growing corridors in Southwest Nigeria. From the Lekki-Epe Expressway upgrade in Lagos State to the smooth, spotless roads leading into Ogun State, this route showcases some of the most impressive road infrastructure projects happening right now.

The road network linking Lagos and Ogun is making travel easier and opening up huge opportunities for trade, investment, and development. With key areas like Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, and the Lekki Free Trade Zone rapidly growing, and Ijebu Ode enjoying one of the best access roads in the region, it’s clear both states are investing in a shared future of progress.

I’ll be spending some time in Ijebu Ode to explore this historic town , its culture, people, and food before riding back to Lagos.

Dear Lagosians,

Today marks the launch of commercial operations of the LMRT Red Line, kicking off passenger services from Agbado to Oyingbo.

We’re on a mission to keep Lagos moving, and the Red Line is a key part of our vision to create a seamlessly connected city. It is also our second rail system to become operational in less than two years.

Spanning 27 kilometers, the Red Line has eight stations at Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado. The train service is projected to move about 500,000 Lagosians daily as we ramp up the schedule and provide a viable means of commuting.

Daily passenger services will depart from Agbado at 6:00 AM, with the second train leaving Iju Station at 7:30 AM. Make sure you have your Cowry Card ready to board.

Just as with the Blue Line and any other public infrastructure, remember that this project belongs to all of us. Let’s treat it with the respect it deserves. Vandalism or disruptions will not be tolerated—together, we can ensure that our trains remain a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

The Red Line Rail has officially kicked off its invitational passenger operations.

This achievement represents a major advancement in reshaping public transportation in Lagos, bringing us closer to a modern, efficient, and interconnected city.

The Red Line will operate four daily trips between Oyingbo and Agbado. This essential route will not only facilitate commuting for thousands but also alleviate congestion and enhance the quality of life for our residents.

Morning departures from Oyingbo will begin at 8:30 AM, making stops at key stations such as Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, before arriving at Agbado by 9:37 AM. The trains will adhere strictly to their schedules, ensuring order and efficiency in our rail services.

This initial passenger operation allows us to continually assess the system's safety, reliability, and efficiency, while gathering valuable feedback from passengers. This is a crucial step towards full commercial operations.

Once fully operational, the Red Line is anticipated to run 20 trips daily, accommodating over 500,000 passengers each day. This rail line is more than just transportation; it’s a vital link that connects our communities and drives economic growth.

You’re driving and your brake fails, you suddenly apply the brake and the car won’t just stop…

I know it’ll be hard to compose yourself and you may panic but the first thing you should do is to be calm and then, keep applying the brake… keep pumping it, no matter how little, the force you apply while pumping will connect with the brake calipers and make them grip the brake discs, it might not be sudden but slowly, it will reduce the speed.

Causes of brake failures include
Faulty brake booster or brake servo, if you apply your brake and the brake pedal seems to be stiff on motion, it is the brake booster (Master brake), once you apply the brake and it seems stiff, release the pedal and apply again, do it repeatedly and continuously.

If you apply your brake and the pedal goes down softly without having any effect, it is the brake servo, chances are it has lost ability to control the air pressure, release the brake pedal immediately and apply again immediately, there’s every chance that after applying 2-3times, the brake will get its grip again.

Mistakes most people make after applying the brake once and it doesn’t grip is that they just put their legs on the pedal hoping it’ll have effect, NO!!! Keep applying the brake and keep pumping the pedal.

Now, depending on the speed you are, do not lose focus and hold your steering firmly, use your side mirrors to see if it’s safe to navigate slowly off the road..

If you’re about to hit a car in your front and you’re on top speed and you experience brake failure, and you see it’s not safe to navigate, please do not maneuver suddenly, keep applying the brake pedal and hit that car, then talk about repairs, if you keep pumping, it will slow down the acceleration of the car, not speed and this will reduce the impact and keep you safe, maneuvering suddenly puts you at more risks and may make you lose control absolutely of the vehicle.

Most people are always afraid of damaging their cars and try to maneuver suddenly to avoid expenses, please, damage that car and stay alive, you can repair and have it fixed, and repair whoever’s car you damage, safety first, the car you will hit will slow down your car and put it to a halt, most importantly, try and be very composed.

Other causes of brake failure may be damaged brake hoses that supply brake fluids to the calipers, in this case, the brake pedal will automatically get soft and rate at which the calipers should grip the discs will be reduced, just keep pumping the brakes, it’ll slow the car down automatically.

Most importantly, please do not panic, and don’t be too confident about your car that you think you cannot experience brake failure, drive and move at speeds like your brake may fail, this will help your instincts to periodically check your brake system while driving intermittently and also help you stay composed in case it happens.

PLEASE!!!
DO not make the mistake of using your arm or leg brakes when you experience brake failures, the cables connected to the rear wheels through the arm or leg brake will cause a sudden friction on top speed and the car may/will summersault, it puts you at more risk, if the speed has reduced to a certain reasonable level, you may use the arm/leg brake but softly, not suddenly.

Exciting times for Lagos. I am delighted to announce that the Red Line Rail project covering Agbado to Otto is ready for commissioning. With its inauguration just weeks away, we are set to provide more relief for commuters

This significant milestone is a testament to our commitment to enhancing transportation for millions of Lagos residents.

During a productive meeting with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation in Beijing, we reiterated our dedication to completing the Blue Line Rail project's second phase. This trip was important to meet with the leadership and finalise our plans for an integrated system that will work for Lagosians as we commit them to a long term partnership.

We are grateful for the collaboration with CCECC and the support of our partners in realizing this transformative project. Our promise to over twenty-two million Lagosians is fast becoming a reality. The traffic and transportation challenges will soon be history as we move forward. We also had discussions pertaining to the 4th Mainland Bridge and it is certain that this project will begin shortly.

As we eagerly await the official commissioning, I'm pleased to share that HE President Bola Tinubu has agreed to grace the occasion heralding the launch of the Red Line Rail for commercial operations.

Lagos will continue to work for us all and that’s a promise we intend to keep fulfilling.
