Many fascinating parts of this article but even as an OB/GYN and a researcher I was struck by the statement that the scientific potential of menstrual blood analysis as a biologic sample for studying disease has been overlooked due to the “ick” factor.

There should be public outrage, frankly, over the fact that OB/GYN departments receive only 1% of NIH research funding.
OB/GYN and our specialties provide the majority of care and surgery women receive in a lifetime, but ONE PERCENT of the research dollars.
This is a crisis.
