The fact that the old Hallam Tower (left) was demolished in 2017 only to be replaced by that on the right 4 years later highlights all that is wrong with how we view buildings.
Both concrete structures with huge embodied carbon - could the old tower not have been adapted?
@ScootFoundation Unfortunately they see smaller leasable spaces as being more difficult... It allows for small scale failure too... so business can be less risk adverse.
@ScootFoundation Small scale lots definitely allow for more diversity, but equally, owners of existing large lots can do so much to encourage that diversity through allowing for smaller leasable spaces... Like st Kevin's arcade.
Everyone gets worked up about British Rail’s Pacer trains – but today I give you Sud Pacifico de Mexico’s version: it’s a c1930s double-decker Pickwick bus conversion. Rear rubber-tyres wheels replaced by metal-tyred ones; steered front axle replaced by a bogie. Pretty, it ain’t.
