I joined @WisprFlow as Head of Social today. As I walked in the door, I had a realization that I feel everyone that’s early in their career could benefit from.

3 years ago I started pursuing organic social media as a career.

I still vividly remember spending every evening and weekend building Instagram pages and wondering “what is my plan/why am I spending my time on this”

Eyes red from too much screen time.
I sometimes wonder what drove me to sacrifice all my evenings and weekends.

In hindsight, I was relying on my interest and passion for media as a sort of compass. I made almost no money for 2 years. Yet, this is by far the most valuable thing I’ve done in my career.

And so, the realization I had was that working for free (if you’re lucky enough to be able to afford to) can be a huge advantage and gift. I’d have never expected to land here when I started.
