My wife called me this morning and told me that the truck wouldn't start because there was water in the carburetor.
I laughed and said, "Water in the carburetor? That's ridiculous, you don't even know where the carburetor is.
Where's the truck?"
She said, "In the lake."

🚨 LEGEND
On the evening of 21 September 2021, Richard O'Brien was driving alone along Wood Street in Barnet, north London. It was dark when he noticed two people arguing aggressively at the roadside. He pulled over, and then he saw it: a man was stabbing a woman.
Richard didn't drive on. He moved his car forward to distract the attacker, then got out and tried to talk him down. When words failed, he went in, completely unarmed, and kicked the man, stopping the attack. By then the woman had been stabbed ten times and her injuries were life threatening.
He didn't stop there. With another kick, Richard knocked the attacker to the ground and sent the knife flying from his hand. He dragged him away from the w*apon and held him face down on the pavement until police arrived. The woman was taken to hospital in a life threatening condition, and the official citation states that without his intervention she would likely have lost her life.
Richard grew up in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, and now lives in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, where he runs an electrical contracting business. He later said he hadn't stopped to consider the danger to himself until he got home that night. The woman he saved only properly met him after he gave evidence at the Old Bailey trial, and only then did she learn who had rescued her.
In October 2025, Richard was awarded the King's Gallantry Medal for exemplary bravery. On 25 March 2026, he received it from His Majesty King Charles III at St James's Palace.
An ordinary man on an ordinary drive home, who chose to stop when it mattered most. Thank you, Richard.
Dame Sibyl Hathaway (1884–1974) was the 21st and longest-serving feudal ruler (Dame of Sark) of the tiny Channel Island of Sark, governing for 47 years from 1927 until her death....
When the Germans came for her island in 1940, Dame Sibyl Hathaway buried her champagne.
She intended to drink it when they left.
Sibyl wasn’t an ordinary island resident. She was the hereditary Dame of Sark, ruler of a tiny Channel Island whose government still retained centuries-old feudal traditions.
When German officers arrived, she refused to behave like a conquered woman.
She made them come to her.
Fluent in German and acutely aware of military etiquette, Sibyl received officers at La Seigneurie, her ancestral home, where they were expected to observe the formalities due her position. She discovered that German officers accustomed to hierarchy often respected hers.
Behind the manners, however, occupation was brutal.
Food became desperately scarce. Islanders were deported, including Sibyl’s husband. Thousands of mines were planted.
Sibyl stayed.
When hunger worsened, she helped obtain food for her people. Accounts describe her participating in the removal of hundreds of pounds of wheat from German stores and hiding potatoes beneath a trapdoor in her drawing room.
Then, in May 1945, Germany surrendered.
British troops arrived on Sark and accepted the surrender of the German commander.
There was just one problem.
Around 275 German soldiers remained on an island with only a few hundred civilians, and the British couldn’t spare enough men to stay.
So they left Dame Sibyl with them.
Asked whether she could manage for a few more days, the woman who had endured nearly five years of occupation reportedly replied:
“As I have been left for nearly five years, I can stand a few more days.”
The Germans were disarmed and put to work dealing with the dangerous aftermath of their occupation, including mine clearance.
And Sibyl?
She had her gardener retrieve the champagne she had buried five years earlier.
The Nazis had arrived believing they had conquered Sark.
Sibyl Hathaway had been waiting to drink to the day they discovered they hadn’t conquered her.

So a 'source' says Meghan wants to apologise for the Oprah interview. Let's remember what she's apologising for.
March 2021. Seventeen million Americans, eleven million Britons. She told them that members of this family had held conversations about how dark her unborn child's skin might be. She wouldn't say who. Prince Philip, 99, was in hospital that night. He died five weeks later with that question hanging over his family. The Queen's reply was three words: recollections may vary. The accused have never been named, so they have never been cleared, which was the point.
For five years that one sentence has done its work. It called a 96-year-old woman's household racist in a hundred languages. It let every critic of the Sussexes be called a bigot. It built a movement online whose only test of decency was whether you believed her.
Now, by the reports, she knows it was her biggest mistake and wants a sit-down to say so. Through a source. In the Express. Without, per an earlier report, withdrawing any of the allegations. On the same autumn she's moved back to the country she said was unsafe, with a brand losing traffic, a Netflix partner gone, and a police protection review pending.
That isn't an apology. It's an opening bid.
An apology is made to the people you hurt, at the scale you hurt them. She made the accusation to 28 million people on television. She can withdraw it the same way. Say the conversations did not happen as described. Say who she meant, or say there was no one. Say it on camera, with her name on it, not a friend's. Until then it's what everything else has been: a story placed to see how it lands.
And a word for the people who believed her. Not the ordinary ones who heard a woman in distress and took her side; that's decent. The professionals. The ones who turned 'believe Meghan' into a brand, called everyone who asked for evidence a racist, and hounded people off the internet for doubting a story the teller may now be about to abandon. You weren't defending a victim. You were the marketing. Recollections may vary. Yours are about to.
The family she accused has said nothing for five years. It still hasn't. Four years ago, when the Sussexes demanded an apology from them, a Palace source said that if they wanted to talk to the King, they knew where he lived. That remains the whole of the Palace position. The door's open. It's always been open. It just has no cameras outside it.
#OTD 7 October 1920, women were finally admitted as full members of Oxford University. 130 women took part in the historic enrollment ceremony at the Divinity School.
Women had been studying and sitting examinations at Oxford since the late 1870s, but were barred from registering and receiving the degrees their results would otherwise have earned them.
A week later, on 14 October, Oxford held its first degree ceremony for women, with 50 women receiving ordinary degrees that day.

Standing just 5'5" tall and weighing only 112 pounds, Audie Murphy was often told he was too small to join the U.S. Army. But he decided to enlist anyway — and became one of the most heroic American soldiers of World War II
When confronted by over 200 Nazi soldiers in France, Murphy protected his much smaller group of 40 men by ordering them to run for cover. Then, he fearlessly climbed atop a burning tank destroyer and used its machine gun to face down the advancing Germans. Murphy's fellow soldiers watched in awe, and one private later wrote, "I expected to see the whole damn tank destroyer blow up under him any minute." But by the time the smoke had cleared, Murphy had singlehandedly killed or wounded 50 enemy troops. And that was just one act of bravery from Murphy — who would later receive 33 medals and awards for his valor during the war
A friend had his bike stolen, he reported it to the police. He found the guy who stole his bike and took photos of the guy on the stolen bike and told the police, they’ve refused to do anything. In addition they said, “if you take your bike back, we’ll arrest you for theft”.

Last night, my wife saw me grab a beer out of the fridge and she said, “You should probably make that your last one”
I replied, “Ok” and set it down on the counter.
I turned around and pulled 2 more out of the fridge and she said, “I thought I just told you that beer there should probably be your last one”
I answered, “Yes, that beer there on the counter will be my last one, I’m just gonna drink these 2 first”
