And some of you all won’t let your kids walk to school.
Now the poem that Amanda Gorman read at President Biden’s inauguration, entitled “The Hill We Climb,” has been banned from curriculum through 5th grade in Miami-Dade County, for not being suitable for elementary students.
For those who listened to the poem, you would know the the poem was a lecture on peace, love, unity, and freedom.
This is why laws banning critical race theory from schools are a problem. People begin categorizing anything that talks about race as falling into the realm of CRT. Or they use the law to justify removing books and curriculum that can teach real history.
This isn’t free speech. This is using the law to chill the free speech of others, in my opinion.
@omniphonik@MarieCoppola68 Always ask a children’s librarian for help@with finding books. Not only can they find what you need, but they will find the best fit for you.
@ZMBennett So sorry for your loss. As a born bibliophile, children’s librarians were my biggest heroes. We were poor and the library was a place where I could be as rich as anyone else.
@LangOnCourse @madamscientist @dynlacht @EdSurge To a degree, yes. However, the instructor can only control what they do, not what students do. I have to look in the mirror when trying to change my classroom environment. Am I planning engaging activities? Do I have strategic pauses? Do I check in?
@madamscientist @dynlacht @LangOnCourse @EdSurge@madamscientist I just can't blame students who are not engaged. If what I am doing doesn't work, it is up to me to find a different way, not blame the student. If your doctor treats an illness and you don't respond to the treatment, they try something else.
@madamscientist @dynlacht @LangOnCourse @EdSurge I am certain that you are skilled at lecture. Why do I need to be in the room with you to listen to your lecture? Why can't I just view your well crafted lecture on my own time? What if I am not feeling well? Lecture is very "old school".
@madamscientist @dynlacht @LangOnCourse @EdSurge True @madamscientist but, just "lecturing" at students with an occasional question thrown in will not bring them to class, physically or figuratively. Class time has to be engaging and productive for students!
@LangOnCourse @EdSurge I understand this. Why should I have to sit and listen to something that could be recorded and I could watch/listen to when I am in the best frame to hear it. Classes need to be for active learning. Record lectures and build in pause points for interaction.
@vijisathy Over 8 yrs ago “she said my opinions were wrong and made me feel ignorant”. Umm, opinions are not facts and I can’t make you feel. Child health class student was anti vaccine
I admire the hell out of Obama. Think he was a great president, a brilliant man, & amazing person. But I’d never fly a flag with his name, or hang his picture in my house, or follow him from rally to rally. That’s the difference between supporting a politician & being in a cult.
