The economy is completely bifurcated.
If you own assets you’re doing well, if you don’t own assets you’re living in the Great Depression 2.0
The question is how much longer can the US economy be propped up by asset prices?
My answer: not long
So Argentina has abolished the income tax ahead of its presidential election in a last-ditch attempt to defeat the libertarian candidate who's leading in the polls. This proves:
1. They're printing money, they really don't need to tax you explicitly.
2. That inflation itself is a stealth tax that can be imposed without any legislation or transparency.
The mechanics of money are going to become way more obvious to people going forward.
Bitcoiners are like the Mormons of currency. No matter how many times you tell them you aren’t interested or make fun of them, they will continue to show up with a smile on their face asking you to change your entire world view.
The Lebanese government is going to start collecting taxes in US dollars, because they have finally learned, the hard way, how stupid it is to accept money that's easy to print.
@LynAldenContact When the price of labor and goods is perpetually in question because the unit of account is unstable, inefficencies start stacking up.
And if CPI is rising 3% per year on average, that generally means that the prices of scarce, labor-intensive, or energy-intensive things are rising much faster, offset by a long tail of deflationary goods (industrialized items, software, electronics, cheap foods, etc).
@paulg 80% of what's wrong with government could be solved if lawmakers had a basic grasp of game theory.
Sadly, most were trained as lawyers rather than being trained to understand incentives, strategies, & equilibria.
@MacroAlf 2023 is the year every dip gets eaten.
And yet commodities + miners getting crushed, citing demand destruction.
Odd stuff. Could be that a lot of people are on the wrong side of these transactions.
Do any of those 'technical alignment developments' solve the problem that humans & groups have radically diverse & heterogenous values that cannot be embodied in any AI with any single coherent set of values?
That's the heart of the alignment issue, IMHO, and I see no realistic prospects for solving it.
