@jlongster The time-burden of scaffolding the mocking and framework-specific test environments for a suite has disappeared. I find that the frameworks make the tests quite readable and am happy to commit them for future-proofing unknown changes.
I just want to highlight that while fuel use is down in China due to rapid EV adoption, coal generation is *also DOWN.*
*That’s* how much solar they’re building.
(everybody should do this)
how to build a bootstrapped startup without funding:
1. pick a problem you personally have. if you don't use your own product daily, quit now
2. skip the pitch deck. open your code editor. ship something ugly in a weekend
3. charge money from day 1. free users give you nothing but support tickets
4. use boring tech. PHP, SQLite, vanilla JS. frameworks are a trap that mass waste your time
5. host on cheap VPS ($5-20/mo). not AWS. you don't need kubernetes for 1,000 users
6. do customer support yourself. it's the fastest product feedback loop that exists
7. automate everything you do more than twice. cron jobs > employees.
8. grow on Twitter/X by building in public. your journey IS the marketing
9. keep your burn rate near zero so you never need to raise. ramen profitable > series A
10. say no to investors, cofounders, and "advisors" who want equity for intros
i've been doing this for 10+ years now. no employees, no funding, no board meetings
the entire VC game is designed to make you think you need permission to start
you don't
@CityofCapeTown - your general enquiries call center (086 010 3089) queues me for 15 minutes at a time, giving me regular feedback about my queue position, only to cut me off as soon as I'm next in line. This has happened twice. What gives?
@geordinhl@Recon1_ZA@CityofCT With respect... You could choose to only re-valuate properties once sold- or at least not hide that this announcement comes a week after many rates went up by 35%+. Working people don't get the benefit of rising values, so why should COCT? Please don't punish the innocent here.
You can’t stop if you haven’t started.

One tiny click to amplify these people risking their lives to have an ounce of freedom we do.
After the horrific murder of more than 6 million Jews in the Holocaust, the world vowed: Never Again.
Collectively, we committed never to stay silent in the face of pure evil and never to allow innocent civilians to be slaughtered on an industrial scale.
Right now that is exactly what is happening in Iran.
The world has a moral imperative to put the concept of Never Again into practice and to act decisively to defend the brave people of Iran.
Today, as we remember the victims of the Holocaust, we urgently call on the free world not to let another massacre go unanswered.
As an Iranian & liberal, I don’t know how to say this any clearer:
Stop making the Iranian revolution about who YOU like or don’t like politically in the west.
U either support freedom from a murderous oppressive regime or u don’t; & if u do just support Iranians. That’s it.
@MichaelJordaan That solar portion (set against wind & nuclear) is much smaller than sunny countries, where wind is the gap-filler. Granted it's still a significant %, but only because you'll need more panels with less sunlight, I guess.
South Africa has now installed more rooftop solar (7.3GW) than the total capacity of renewable energy IPPs that supply Eskom. Businesses and homes are making their own plans to get cheaper power.
@DavidMaynier@DavidMaynier - The @Netwerk24 headline you posted earlier said it was over 790,000. I think that was a typo? Genuinely curious, as this @Smile904FM article states a very specific 77,442.
@dhh It's like having that long-timer senior dev sit with you to help you get your new dev environment up-and-running on day #1 of a new job. Sure you could read the documentation yourself, and send out questions in text... but asking him directly saves you days.
