104 Iranian sailors, many in their late teens, unarmed, thousands of miles away at a training event with other nations.
Their final words to the US warship that slaughtered them "we are unarmed".
The law of armed conflict states survivors to be recused - the US ignored this.
La rival del gobernador de Tenesí, donde anoche se produjo el espantoso intento fallido de matar una mujer mediante inyección letal, promete resolver el problema volviendo a la silla eléctrica. Esa gente está loca
Hiding a fire extinguisher is a hilariously bad idea. And someone thinking it’s a great design perfectly encapsulates the mindset of most Apple cultists when it comes to anything Apple does
People acting surprised that the Pope is backing the artists as if the Catholic Church, for all its faults, isn't one of the greatest and longest patrons of the arts the world has ever known.
Screenplays are not the end product. They are a blueprint for a movie. You may have an amazing story—but it's everything that happens *after* the script that determines the success of the project.
A novel is an end product where the story itself is the appeal.
A lot of writers just want to be writers.
Others write to see their stories on the big screen.
Both are equally valid.
But let's be clear—getting a finished movie to market and a novel to market are vastly different undertakings in size and scope.
One person can write a novel on a laptop.
Movies require funding, collaborators and navigating a minefield where one wrong move blows up the whole thing.
Be honest with yourself about why you want to be a writer.
If it's just to tell stories and connect with an audience, novels are probably the better fit for you.
There's no reason to put yourself through the seven gates of film development hell if you'd be just as happy on the best seller list.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
This is also basically how everyone used the internet 20 years ago
You’d end up on some guy’s website about Civil War cannons, click his links page, discover a county historical society, then spend 40 minutes reading a forum for antique tractor owners
“What sort of website is this?” was half the experience
We called it surfing for a reason, now you open the same 4 apps every day
My book on the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, published in 2022, ended with the point that intelligence assets engaged in blackmail, like Epstein, are no longer needed (and thus became expendable) because the surveillance state can retrieve blackmail directly from your devices or plant incriminating material on them.
Four years later, they are just saying it out in the open.
today i've learned that 2 air gapped computers in the same room can communicate with each other by regulating their CPU temperature

A close friend once told me he listened to the audio book of Blood Meridian and thought it was extremely surreal and avant guard, only to learn his audiobook player had a "random" feature for chapters and that it had switched on.
also when you look at a map, it's clear why the US occupies Puerto Rico when Cuba, Jamaica, and Haiti/DR are closer to the US:
Puerto Rico allows the US navy to blockade the entire Caribbean and Gulf. and they also control Panama. this entire region is imprisoned by US empire
