So, Twitter appears to have killed third-party apps. That's it for me, I'm done. I might check in from time to time to read @fesshole, but that's it. @robmanuel please migrate to Mastodon.
If you're thinking this isn't a good place to be anymore and you're looking to move, I've set up my own server in the other place. I intend to keep it small and limit it to people I know, either online or in real life - you can find a link in my bio, or DM me for more info.
@SamanthaMalin Overnight at least. If you have a pressure cooker though, you can cook without soaking very quickly. Depends on type and age of bean, but around 30 mins.
I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?"
As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.
@gregfallis Migration is easy. There are instructions here: https://t.co/ueuY4V1UyV - to take followers with you, you want ‘move’ not ‘redirect’. The “very heavy cooldown period” it refers to is 30 days.
I have my own Mastodon instance up and running and now I think I've got the hang of things, I'm opening it up to people I know - the idea is to keep it small and cosy. If we know each other, and you're looking for a home in the Mastodon world, check it out https://t.co/xkwdODUJ03
That’s a lovely fantasy to have but let’s just investigate it for a second. (1) Twitter has a fairly unusual set of engineering needs in a bunch of areas - and a bunch of necessary institutional knowledge that is just walking out the door.
