The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, through the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project, is currently conducting Regional Agribusiness Development Refresher Trainings for Fisheries Extension Workers, District Fisheries Officers, and Commercial Officers across the country.
Facilitated in collaboration with Makerere University, the training is equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills to strengthen agribusiness advisory services within the fisheries sector.
The ongoing sessions are focusing on key areas such as entrepreneurship, fish value chain development, production and business planning, market linkages, and financial management. Through interactive learning methods including group discussions and practical exercises, participants are gaining hands-on experience to better support farmers and stakeholders in adopting market-oriented and sustainable fisheries enterprises.
So far, the training has been successfully rolled out across multiple sub-regions, reaching dozens of districts, with the Western Uganda session currently underway. This initiative is expected to enhance productivity, improve market access, and boost incomes for actors along the fisheries value chain, contributing to a more resilient and commercially driven fisheries sector in Uganda.
This week, @UCSATP is conducting nationwide refresher trainings on Farmer Institutional Development across all 69 project districts. This coordinated effort brings together District Leaders, Technical Teams, frontline Extension Workers and farmer groups to strengthen implementation and ensure that farmers receive quality, timely, and effective support.
Kabale Reviews Climate Agriculture Project Progress, Sets Plans for Next Quarter
Leaders in Kabale District have reviewed the performance of the Uganda Climate Agriculture Transformation Project, with a focus on strengthening implementation and planning for the next phase of activities.
The progress review and planning meeting, convened by the District Project Coordination Committee on Wednesday, assessed project achievements for the first and second quarters, evaluated ongoing activities for the third quarter, and outlined priorities for the fourth quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year. Kabale is among 69 districts implementing the project nationwide.
Speaking during the meeting, Chief Administrative Officer Robert Mugabe emphasized the importance of teamwork and respect for institutional roles within the committee, noting that its composition is guided by statutory responsibilities. He called for strict accountability in the use of project funds to ensure effective delivery of results.
The Secretary for Production Trade and Natural Resources, Ronald Bagamuhunda, commended the progress made so far, saying the district has registered significant strides in project implementation. However, he raised concern over delays in the delivery of inputs to farmers who have already co-funded under the programme, warning that this is affecting their confidence. He also stressed the need for service providers to supply quality inputs.
Meanwhile, Secretary for Administration, Planning, Finance and Technical Services, Bridget Asinga Tumwesigye, expressed optimism about the project’s impact, noting that increased understanding of its components has highlighted its value to the district. She cited the example of beneficial insect value chains, such as the black soldier fly, which she said can significantly contribute to agricultural productivity.
Tumwesigye also welcomed the co-funding model, saying it encourages ownership among farmers and enhances sustainability of the project.
District leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the initiative to improve agricultural productivity and livelihoods.
