“I always thought that Carol of the Bells was an American carol, but there is a girl from Ukraine in my choir, and she came up to me and said that this is a Ukrainian Christmas song. ‘Please, André, let me sing this piece for my people back home, because they are going through very hard times.’ I said ‘Yes!’ immediately. I hope you all agree,” Rieu said while introducing the song and its performer.
