@JabbaHall I didnโt play or embarrass myself, but had a brilliant time thanks. Team did largely as expected against two of the top 6, could have beaten Morocco with a bit more luck. Why are you so bothered about ๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ ?
@merino5744@theiaincameron However- the fitness of the teams in terms of VO2 max will be similar. Iโve not checked, but I donโt imagine most of the Mexican team were born/ raised at altitude, and many will usually play at sea level (and Iโd rather England didnโt win- sorry Ian ๐)
@merino5744@theiaincameron Acclimatisation is critical, and the Mexican players will have been living at altitude for several weeks- anyone that has tried to climb at high altitude will know that
@theiaincameron VO2 max in itself probably not the most important factor- lack of acclimatisation will be, and Iโm sure their sports scientists will be looking at this. Good reference point for the effect of altitude on ball flight and aerobic vs anaerobic performance is the 1968 olympics!
@offtheballbbc Country- club football in Scotland has been destroyed by the dominance of the old firm and all the baggage they bring. I may change my mind if this season is as exciting as the last one was though
@utdcynical Thatโs a decent 5K time at altitude. Would be helpful if you could share your 5K time at sea level for comparison. That altitude will undoubtedly affect aerobic performance, especially if not acclimatised (see 1968 olympics)
@paulfinney1969 Not English or a England fan .
But how is it fair that a team can spend tens of thousands of pounds on sports physiologists, nutritionists, state of the area training facilitiesโฆ when playing a team with a fraction of the resource (DRC)?
