Anyone presenting themselves as part of the opposition today, whether republican or monarchist, must have a clear international advocacy plan focused on securing the release of political prisoners, especially those on death row. Otherwise, in the eyes of many Iranians, they will be seen as self-serving opportunists exploiting the war to seize power, not as people who genuinely want freedom for Iran.
