I am deeply appalled and angry to see “Firework” used on the @WhiteHouse TikTok account as a backing track for video footage of military strikes. I did not approve this, I was not asked, and I absolutely do not condone it.

I wrote this song to be an anthem of hope, healing, and inner strength for people going through their darkest personal moments. To see a message of self-worth and upliftment weaponized to soundtrack destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song stands for.

My music is for bringing people together, not celebrating warfare.

I'm seeing a lot of criticisms of Andy Burnham's 'vibes politics'. The charge seems to be that he's trying to make people feel happier, rather than engage in drastic changes.

I actually believe he may be right to focus on vibes rather than major reforms for now.

The main problem of the UK, the way I see it, is that defeatism and pessimism have overcome the country during the 2009 financial crisis and this atmosphere of doom and gloom never went away.

That is not to say that the UK isn't facing major (structural) problems, but all of them would be easier to overcome with a happier population.

Happy people are more creative. Happy people are more productive. Happy people are more confident. The key to economic success largely depends on people being happy.

As such, I feel that 'vibes politics' may well be what the UK needs most urgently, right now.
