The fundamental problem with James Gunn running the DCU is that he (incorrectly) believes that general audiences love obscure and underrated characters as much as he does.

Mind you, in the same movie, Lois Lane spend the first 45 minutes tracking down and documenting eye witness testimonies of an unknown individual who’s been moving around saving people way before Zod shows up.
You people didn’t watch this movie and it’s okay to finally admit it.
This is the thing with purists. In their minds superman is defined by his suit. Not his actions. Their 'love' for the character is all cosmetic. The entire film is him saving lives since he was the age of 13 but it didn't register to these types bc no red underwear
