@LifeArtStudios@HardwareSteam I wouldn't recommend it as a dev machine - too low spec.
It's intended to be a good value, mid-range, living room gaming PC.
@LifeArtStudios@HardwareSteam It's built for gaming, not AI workflows. Get a Mac Mini if you want an AI machine.
The Steam Machine will game a lot better than a similarly priced Mac Mini.
@LifeArtStudios@HardwareSteam It doesn't have unified memory; it has 16GB system RAM and 8GB video memory.
You won't be running local models on this machine.
@LifeArtStudios@HardwareSteam No - it won't be. It doesn't have unified memory; it has 16GB system RAM and 8GB video memory.
You won't be running local models on this machine.
@UniverseBlade@nelo390@HopMtn@HardwareSteam Even at $1,000, it would provide a performance/form-factor/flexibility/usability combo that isn't available from any other product on the market today.
It'll be a niche product, but so was the Steam Deck.
@hankgreen Isn't the issue that the index funds are going to be forced to buy these overpriced AI stocks as well, so we will all be exposed to the inevitable crash?
Weekend demand has shifted from Saturday to Sunday in 2026:
- Sep-Dec 2025, avg 77 Sat vs 51 Sun.
- Jan-Apr 2026, avg 103 Sat vs 114 Sun.
Wonder what's caused the change, as service patterns have been the same (4 trains Sat, 2 trains Sun).
April 2026 Te Huia Patronage stats are out - copied here for charts: https://t.co/VQPMrkRCFV
April '26 had 7,688. This was up on 3,149 in '25 (due to cyclones and cancellations), but down on 9,212 in '24.
April '26 had 94 trains with 82/train vs 110 trains with 84/train in '24.
@chi_cargo@LewisHoldenNZ Adults receive $19,240pa.
Parents receive anywhere from 95% to 35% of this amount per child, depending on age and number of children.
@SukritGanesh More people means more demand on infra: transport, health, education, police, water.
Infra doesn't automatically improve due to economies of scale without investment.
Most households today are living on the infra investment of the past and don't want to pay for the future.
@RaccoonRailroad It's on track to be operationally profitable - what they can't cover is the debt costs.
If government pitched in to build the infrastructure, it would be totally feasible to have privately operated, profitable public transport.
@MarkLevineNYC Having a park in the median seems like a great way to make people not enjoy the park.
Why not have the traffic in the middle, with wider footpaths and green space on the edges?
This gives people direct access to the green space without needing to traverse traffic.
@pfinanceblogs@the_transit_guy The Ojai cars launching this summer are from Zeekr (owned by Geely).
They're also experimenting with Hyundai Ioniq 5s which are made in the US so don't have the tariffs.
Imagine getting in a time machine and going back to 1776 and telling the Founding Fathers that the King would one day be reminding America about the importance of democracy and our checks and balances. That is the timeline we’re living in.
