Last night, Andy Biggs and I shared the same stage in Lake Havasu City for a roundtable/debate at the high school. You’ll be seeing clips from the night, and it was great preparation for our October 6 Clean Elections debate.

But there was something else I noticed—and this wasn’t the first time.

I’ve attended other events with Andy where I’ve watched the same pattern. In fact, before last night’s event even started, I told people what I expected would happen based on what I had personally witnessed at previous events. And it happened again.

Andy arrived with a driver and security at his side. I drove myself. I came early, set up my own table, stayed through the entire event to support the other candidates, stayed afterward talking with people, and then drove myself home.

I walked around. I shook hands. I listened and talked with Arizonans. When our portion on stage was finished, Andy and his team left while the event continued for roughly another hour and a half. I stayed.

That difference matters to me because public service is exactly that—service.

I’m not a celebrity, and I don’t believe elected officials should approach public service like celebrities. I don’t need to be separated from the people I’m asking to represent. I want to be among them, hear from them, and stay engaged even when the cameras aren’t focused on me.

This wasn’t something I observed once. I’ve seen it before, which is why I was able to call it before it happened again last night.

We have very different approaches to serving Arizona.

He comes as a celebrity. I come as a servant.

That is the kind of Governor I intend to be—accessible, present, and among the people I serve.
