#Hantavirus update: the UK government has reported a confirmed case in Tristan de Cunha, in a person who was previously considered a probable case with exposure on MV Hondius. As of 10 June, the total number of cases remains 13, including three deaths. No new deaths were reported in over a month, since 2nd May.
A moment of hope in the #Ebola response.
Today, in Mongbwalu, Ituri, the province at the centre of the outbreak in #DRC, the first survivor there was discharged from care and reunited with his community. In Nyankunde, eight patients were released today, too.
Their recovery is a testament to their strength and the dedication of health workers providing lifesaving care under challenging conditions. It is also a reminder that many people can survive Ebola when they receive care early and safely.
Thank you @DrTedros for visiting the @WHO Uganda country office.
Your warmth, leadership and compassion inspire us to stay the course. We will continue to be steered by our common goal... #HealthForAll.

Omar Artan didn’t just make the #FIFAWorldCup, he made history as the first Somali referee to get there, and as #Africa’s best. That milestone stands no matter what. So sorry to see this, Omar. You reached the summit of your profession and inspired a generation back home just by getting there, and being kept off the pitch you earned doesn’t change that. This won’t be the end of your story on the world stage. The world stands with you as one family, wishing you resilience now and many more major finals to come. Solidarity. #Somalia

Yesterday I visited Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, where a separate unit has been prepared to treat #Ebola patients. I'm glad for the opportunity to meet with health workers in charge and thank them for their dedication. I am very happy with all the work invested in preparedness and readiness that I have witnessed.
I commend the Government of #Uganda for the work being done to control Ebola and provide care for those affected. Uganda’s leadership has been central to the response, and @WHO remains committed to supporting national efforts to stop transmission, save lives and protect communities.
Mwebale nnyo.
We had a productive meeting with @WHO Director-General @DrTedros and development partners to review the Ebola outbreak response and strengthen coordinated preparedness and response efforts in Uganda and across the border.
A key strategy for ending this outbreak quickly is to collectively combat misinformation through continuous awareness and communication. False beliefs that Ebola is a scam or the result of witchcraft are lowering risk perception, leading to dangerous behaviors that can fuel transmission and even put response teams at risk. Our greatest fear is community spread, which can challenge even the strongest response systems. We must all recognize the seriousness of the threat, adhere to the preventive measures in place, report any suspected cases, and actively educate our families and communities. By protecting others, we protect ourselves, because once Ebola spreads within communities, it can affect anyone. It can find its way to ANYONE.
Thank you Permanent Secretary @DianaAtwine and @MinofHealthUG for organizing today's briefing for diplomatic corps in Kampala, on our joint work to stop the #Ebola outbreak. I joined the Permanent Secretary on her call to solidarity and cooperation, and implementation of evidence-based measures of health security, instead of travel and trade bans. Together, we can stop Ebola.
Today, the Ministry of Health with support from @WHOUganda convened a high level meeting with @WHO@DrTedros and Ambassadors, Heads of Mission and Development Partners to provide an update on the ongoing Ebola response in #Uganda.
Leading the Ministry's delegation, Permanent Secretary, Dr. @DianaAtwine reaffirmed Uganda's commitment to transparency, timely information sharing and evidence-based response measures. She attributed the progress made in containing this outbreak to the strong political will from H E @KagutaMuseveni, who has consistently championed Uganda's response to public health emergencies.
In response to supporting DRC in containing this outbreak, Dr. Atwine said "DRC is our brother country and through regional partnerships and efforts, we shall be able to defeat this outbreak."
Dr. Atwine called upon countries that have imposed travel restrictions on Uganda to reconsider their decisions.
Echoing this call, @DrTedros emphasized that travel restrictions are not helpful in controlling Ebola outbreaks and can negatively affect the movement of essential supplies, personnel, and commodities needed to support response efforts. He noted that such measures risk undermining trust, transparency, and international cooperation, and commended countries that have continued to follow WHO recommendations by avoiding unnecessary travel and trade restrictions.
He emphasized that Governments remain in the driving seat of the response and partners are required to support efforts including one plan, one budget and one Monitoring and Evaluation framework.
Dr. Tedros commended the Ministry's response to the Ebola outbreak under the leadership of Dr. @DianaAtwine and reaffirmed WHO's commitment to support the response.

In Ebola-stricken eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, a massive push for early testing and contact tracing is underway to contain the virus, says @WHO.
As of 8 June, there have been 550 confirmed cases of #Ebola and 101 deaths in DRC 🇨🇩.

Thank you, President @KagutaMuseveni, for a very constructive meeting, and especially for #Uganda’s strong efforts to contain #Ebola. We agreed that regional cooperation is key to prevent further spread of the virus, as well as investment in preparedness and readiness, and strong community engagement. I assured the President of @WHO’s commitment and support to stop this outbreak side by side let health workers and experts in Uganda and DRC.

I met with the World Health Organization Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who called on me at State House Entebbe.
We discussed the Ebola outbreak in the region and the measures needed to strengthen prevention and response efforts. I stressed the importance of community awareness, early detection, and cross-border collaboration.
Uganda has experience in mobilizing communities to confront public health challenges, as we did during the fight against HIV/AIDS. Through science, leadership, and cooperation with partners such as WHO, we can continue to protect our people and strengthen regional health security.
UPDATE: This morning, the Ministry of Health hosted World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala.
