In the 20 years since the term “microplastics” was first coined, a rapidly growing body of research has consistently shown how pervasive and problematic the pollutants have become.
A new #ScienceReview provides an overview of this research and the progress made in understanding #microplastics. https://t.co/QqcqlwDD9Z

This article is golden. I also now probe responses to my questions to uncover a candidate's thought processes. I ask them for their advice on how to tackle something rather than ask "tell us about a time when you..." After all, human beings learn and grow all the time.
In his latest “Rethinking” podcast, Adam Grant talked with his guest Robin Arzón about the difference between being your “best self” vs being your “favorite self,” and it's got me thinking
Your "best self" is like being the superhero 🦸🏻♀️ version of yourself
It’s often based on societal expectations, cultural norms, and the opinions of others
It’s the version of ourselves that we think will make us more successful, more attractive, or more likable
It’s the version we believe we “should” be
(Narrator: It was at this point she knew Adam was staring directly into her soul)
But your "favorite self"?
That's the version of ourselves that we truly enjoy being
It’s the version of ourselves that makes us happy, fulfilled, and authentic 🥳
In today’s fast-paced world, there’s a lot of pressure to constantly strive to be our “best self”
This idea is often glamorized in self-help books, social media, and motivational speeches
But what if it’s not the “best” approach to your best life?
What if it never gets us to the point where we feel we are truly living in the essence of our being?
What if (nod to @tomowenmorgan) it deeply inhibits our creative expression??
Furthermore, our “best self” has an external locus of control
It leaves us constantly comparing ourselves to others and trying to live up to external standards of success and happiness
Meanwhile, our “favorite self” has an internal locus of control
We can focus on our own values, passions, and desires
We can stop trying to please others or live up to anyone else’s expectations and instead can focus on what truly makes us happy and fulfilled
What if…striving to be our favorite self was a healthier and more sustainable approach to goal setting?
What if…leading with our favorite self made us more likely to achieve our goals and live a more authentic and meaningful life?
What if…embracing our quirks, passions, and all the things that make us unique lead to more opportunities to chase happiness?
I know where I lean on this
To the lady who stopped on Christmas Day 11 years ago while I slept in this doorway (across from the West Hotel at Pender & Carrall in the DTES) to give me a Tims coffee, a hug, and 50 bucks … please reach out if you remember me!
I want to THANK YOU. You gave me hope in a very dark time. Today I’m coming up on 11 years of sobriety. I have never forgotten you, and I do my best to pay it forward ⏩
This year I’m able to give three people those same things you gave to me.
Merry Christmas to you and to everyone — especially people who don't have much today. Remember, if you see someone who’s homeless it doesn't take much to be kind. #MerryChristmas 🎄🎄 #KindnessMatters
This was also something my mother, sister, and I did in the late 1980s. My mother would get unused pages from our note books bound at a press- that became the rough book for the next year school!
