TRAGIC DEATH : SOMTOCHUKWU CHRISTELLE MADUAGWU
December 26, 1995 - September 29, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the management and staff of the ARISE News Channel announce the passing of our beloved colleague, News Anchor, Reporter and Producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu. Sommie tragically passed away in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025 following an armed robbery incident in her residence in Katampe area of Abuja that is being investigated by the Nigeria Police.
Sommie, 29, was not only a cherished member of the ARISE News family but also a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers.
Beyond the airwaves, Sommie was a lawyer who was a professional and supportive colleague and a friend to many.
We extend our deepest condolences to Sommie’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time. Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension and prosecution of the culprits.

I published my first book, Street OT, a collection of Pidgin English stories at 24. This book earned me an invitation to the James Currey Fellowship for African Literature at Oxford.
I will be giving out free PDF copies. Drop an email address in the comments if interested.
Seeing this post prompted me to share a story. Not fiction
When my elder sister gave birth to her first child, her husband would usually carry the baby during his morning prayers. It started off as, “Let me help my wife carry the baby since she couldn’t sleep last night,” and soon became a routine.
Every day, by 4 a.m., as he prepared for his daily morning prayers, the baby would wake up crying. He would carry her on his chest like in this image and pray with her for the two hours he usually spends in prayer. The beautiful thing about this routine was that once he carried her and she rested on his chest, she stopped crying. She would remain awake but peaceful throughout the entire prayer session.

Woman raise alarm, says police broke into her home through the fence around 3am, took her husband away, told her she'd hear from the station by morning, asked her not to record otherwise they'd arrest her too.
She has been to six different police stations, no trace of him.

I'm looking for 20 students who scored all A's in 2023/2024 WAEC exams. Their results will have to be 100% genuine and reflection of their exceptional intelligence.
An organisation reached-out to me today and is interested in sponsoring the students application to United World Colleges. It's an intensive 2 year program only available for exceptionally smart students. It's a rigorous program.
Once they successfully go through the program, they can gain full scholarships to Ivy League schools like Harvard, MIT, Stanford etc.
The program is done in 18 different countries ranging from US, Canada, Singapore etc. So the successful students will move to any of these countries for the 2 year program.
Kindly share so the right people may see it.
PS: Students who wrote waec in miracle centers should not bother reaching out.
