David Moffat, whose daughter Chloe Moffat worked at the Treasury and took her own life after she was told of allegations she had shared confidential information, says 'there wasn't any duty of care' shown to Chloe by the Treasury.

A HMT spokesperson said: "The Treasury’s deepest sympathies continue to be with Chloe’s friends and family... We will learn the lessons from this tragedy. We are working urgently to respond to the coroner’s findings and we have introduced immediate changes to our guidance, support and wellbeing arrangements."

The tragic death of 26-year-old Chloe Moffat should concern everyone and @hmtreasury has serious questions to answer.

Chloe denied the allegations made against her. Yet she was confronted by two managers, refused the presence of a friend, left uncertain about whether she would lose her livelihood, and immediately locked out of her work emails. The coroner found that this meeting “materially contributed” to her death.

I know only too well the devastating power of an allegation.

An allegation is not a fact and it is not guilt. Yet handled without humanity, fairness or proper safeguards, allegations alone can destroy reputations, careers and lives.

That a great department of state apparently failed to follow its own disciplinary policy - and, according to Chloe’s father, provided no safeguarding or support during or after that meeting - is deeply disturbing.

My thoughts are with David and Anne Moffat. Their determination that something positive should emerge from an unbearable loss deserves more than expressions of sympathy.

HM Treasury must demonstrate accountability and ensure no employee is ever again left feeling so isolated and frightened when facing unproven allegations.

@BskiMike22802 So I bought the book at the time and found it mind blowing. I didn’t notice anyone else talking about it and put it on my shelf where it sits with a lot of other literature about gender. All theory.
But hers was experiential.
I had no idea what happened to her. Gosh.

@ProfRobHoward @tylerblack32 This is exactly my experience. I have recently had a diagnosis of combined ADHD and it has made sense of oh so many things. So many challenges, so much criticism (from others and from myself). From childhood to current day.
Now begins a journey of unburdening. And forgiveness.

@DrJessTaylor I think that cambridge university has shown a woefully inadequate duty of care to this person. Clearly, the system has made it possible for the falsehood to happen. But the pile on has been extraordinary.
All this now is, is utterly utterly sad.
