I spent time with some awesome newly qualified GP Fellows yesterday
If you’re a newly qualified GP, or recent-ish CCT & job hunting, do you want a practice role or a PCN role like ARRS?
(I know what I’d advise, & what I’d choose - but I want to check…)
@m_ratwatte @bma_gp
The @Conservatives, @DHSCgovuk & @NHSEngland have decided, rather than being the ‘stepping stone’ year to signal safety, stability, and hope - 2024 will instead signal reduced patient access to GP services as well as likely closures of GP practices across the country.
🧵👇
A word of caution here, folks:
👉1.9% = a disgrace
👉to match 2019/20 we need 8.7% putting this derisory offer into context
👉#FPR for salariedGPs ~ c£450m
👉Total practice income/patient has ⬆️ by only £15 in a decade -
Yes! *£15*
Nice words won’t save General Practice

'You will have your shift, do your work, you will be rewarded for the points you score based on patient satisfaction outcome measures, you’ll have your review on the website as to how good you are.' @dr_zo's dystopian view on general practice in 2044 https://t.co/5JR93iyeuM
If anyone thinks that racism is only about tackling issues in white individuals?
Then you aren’t aware enough
The views of many from South Asian community towards black colleagues are equally abhorrent
And reflected in #NHS
Challenge your own bias
“Colourism” is a thing.
I worked as a GP in care homes during the 1st wave. Wearing limited &homemade PPE. Asking patients I’d just met what their end of life preferences were, with my face hidden behind mask and visor. Seeing the impact of no testing before discharge. And so many deaths #Breathtaking
1. Expert generalist GPs over skill-mix
2. Quality over quantity
3. Continuity over access
4. Autonomous patient-advocacy over banal service standardisation
5. Individuality over uniformity
6. Choice over compulsion
7. Human connection over AI

I don’t always know the right words to say, but as a physician and human, the violence toward medical facilities and patients in Gaza is awful and heartbreaking. To all my colleagues in health care risking their lives to save others, my heart is with you.
@jameshoggarth I know exactly who this will be - he is intimidating and unpleasant, and ironically often stood near a church. Definitely worth reporting to the police.
Stick to your guns all those taking part in the #JuniorDoctorsStrike. The #NHS needs staff so it needs #PayRestorationNow for a safer future NHS - strong support from your #GP colleagues round the country
How long can ministers stick to the shaky line that they can't talk to @BMA_JuniorDocs while they seek a 35% pay rise when the public back doctors? Negotiations have to happen eventually - as they did with other unions. #JuniorDoctorsStrike
The junior doctors operating on your appendix are paid just £66.55 between them. For a potentially life-saving procedure, which lasts about an hour.
Is this a fair price to put on high quality healthcare?
