Attended BAPS meeting in Manchester. Good papers and collaborative work presented. Cambridge had 4 papers. I chaired the BAPS-Thoracic Airways Group session on congenital lung malformations. Dinner in the Manchester museum. Watched England beat Croatia in the pub! Very nice!
We just concluded a 2 day paediatric 3mm laparoscopic workshop at Storz. This is a BAPES free scholarship workshop for trainees and new consultants. We teach thoracic and abdominal operations in a piglet model. The course has 20 scholars and 10 faculty. It’s is very popular!
We just concluded a very successful 25th BAPES Annual Congress in Edinburgh. We had a minimal invasive surgery course on the morning of 6th September, followed by a 1.5 day conference. I took over as BAPES president today. A huge thank you to past president and organisers.
I am happy to share that I have been elected President of the British Association of Paediatric Endoscopic Surgeons. Our membership is about 300 UK surgeons. I am very grateful for this honor.
I and my colleagues from BAPES UK just concluded a very successful two-day paediatric laparoscopic surgery training workshop before the 1st Eurasian Confederation of Pediatric Surgery Congress in Samarkhand, Uzbekistan. Samarkhand is beautiful and historic. Well worth a visit!
We had our 11th Paediatric 3.5 mm laparoscopy course run by BAPES/Storz in Slough near London. I am course director. We have an experienced faculty and had 20 scholars for this free course.
I attended the BAPS Winter meeting in the Royal College of Surgeons of England. The day before I chaired the thoracic and airways group (BAPSTAG). We discussed diaphragmatic hernia patch material, cystic lesions of the thorax, lung malformation registry and Pectus MDT.
We just concluded a three day paediatric laparoscopy workshop in the department of Paediatric Surgery, Children’s Hospital Lahore, Pakistan. I and colleagues from BAPES were invited by Prof Nabila Talat. We taught paediatric MIS and will continue this collaboration in the future!
This large oesophageal duplication in a 1 year old child was successfully excised through a right thoracoscopic approach. The HD view going up into the neck around the great vessels makes the operation safe.

Started a new position as chair of BAPSTAG at the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons. This is the thoracic and airways Special Interest Group of BAPS.
We had an excellent final day teaching paediatric laparoscopic abdominal surgery in our BAPES/Storz advanced 3 mm laparoscopy course today. We taught fundoplication, cholecystectomy, splenectomy and stapled bowel anastomosis. Thanks to Medtronics, Teleflex, and Lawmed for support
We had a excellent first day of the BAPES/Storz 3 mm paediatric laparoscopic surgery course. The Storz training and technology centre is state of the art. Today was the thoracic day. We taught oesophageal atresia repair, diaphragmatic hernia repair, and lung lobectomy on a pig.
We had a very successful BAPES annual international conference and workshop at the Møller institute in Cambridge University. It was a varied and interesting programme with very good papers presented. I was pleased to have organised it in our centre this year.@BAPS1953@BAPES17
Just concluded a 2 day Paediatric laparoscopic surgery workshop in Nigeria. It was sponsored and organized by APSON/BAPES, our associations. I was accompanied by friends from BAPES, U.K. It was a great experience. We are trying to help establish paediatric laparoscopic surgery.
Went to the University of Child Health Sciences, The Children’s Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, for a lecture on “Advances in Paediatric Thoracic Surgery”. It was well received and we are planning long term collaboration. This is one of the largest paediatric hospitals in the world.
We attended the BAPS annual international conference in Bruges, Belgium. We presented a paper on thoracoscopic lobectomy. Over 100 cases, with zero mortality. One of the largest series in the UK.
