Understanding the anatomy of the bile duct is essential for successful stone removal
The successful removal of bile duct stones relies on knowing the anatomical aspects of the bile ducts, including their segments and drainage patterns.
For example: the left hepatic duct is located more anteriorly than the right hepatic ducts, making cannulation of the right hepatics easier.
It is also important to obtain contrast or cholangiograms of the left system, which can be more challenging.
Knowing these anatomical details helps in planning the removal procedure effectively.
