Delighted to present 4 abstracts at #EASCongress from the Lipoprotein Research Group at @MFTnhs including research on TG and CVD, the global FCS registry & the publication of interim HEART-2 PCSK9 gene-editing data in @NEJM led by @ScottVafai and an outstanding international team
Be PRAGMATIC
Be SIMPLE
From Haffner to VESALIUS: we didn’t discover anything new… we finally accepted it.
📍 1888, Haffner (NEJM) already warned us:
👉 A patient with diabetes and no MI carries a risk similar to someone who already had one.
https://t.co/UZnxtl59hG
📍 2026 VESALIUS (JAMA) just removes the last excuse:
👉 Even before clinically evident atherosclerosis, the risk is already biologically active.
https://t.co/TerMC7yRJI
👆 Let’s be honest:
There are NO LOW-RISK patients with diabetes
There are NO INTERMEDIATE-RISK patients with diabetes
👉 There are only:
HIGH RISK
VERY HIGH RISK (most of them, if you actually look closely)
📌 The problem is not classification.
📌 The problem is clinical denial and therapeutic inertia.
We don’t undertreat diabetes because we lack evidence.
👉 We undertreat it because we are still thinking in outdated risk categories.
Atherosclerosis starts early.
Diabetes accelerates it.
And we… keep labeling instead of acting.

The genetic architecture of FCS is more complex and heterogeneous in the UK:
- 12.9% of the tested are genetically confirmed FCS
- Over half are LPL-FCS, but non-LPL FCS are equally common
- Regional & ethnic variability

Presented at #AHA24:
In a large trial involving patients with acute myocardial infarction, 95% of whom had ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, spironolactone did not reduce the risk of cardiovascular events. Full CLEAR trial results: https://t.co/YiRtIHAv2u
In the CLEAR randomized trial involving patients with acute myocardial infarction, colchicine did not decrease the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events over a median follow-up period of 3 years. Full trial results: https://t.co/k3fRIyyFpd
Nov. Featured Article: UK FCS registry: Higher pancreatitis risks but lower ASCVD rates in FCS vs. MCS; gene distribution varies by ethnicity
